While the football team is thinking white, as in 100 percent Cotton, the basketball teams are thinking white, as in snow. While the Lady Ags were waiting, and hoping, to leave behind the blow ing snow in Oregon Sunday, the Prairie View A&M men’s team was doing the same in Iowa. The Texas A&M men’s team (2-1) hosts Prairie View (0-4) Monday night at 7:30 in G. Rollie White Col iseum. The Ags were hoping the Panthers- were able to leave the 12 inches of snow in northern Iowa in time for Monday’s game. “I just hope they get here,” Aggie Coach Shelby Metcalf said. “I know they’ve improved from last year. They’ve just been on the road all sea son. 1 haven’t seen them so I really don’t know a whole lot about them.” Metcalf does know a lot about the Aggies though. After two sluggish games to open the season, A&M got off to fast start against Stephen F. Austin Thursday and never slowed down, winning 80- 73. ‘‘'Fhe last game (SFA) was the best we’ve played,” Metcalf said. “The first two games, we got off to a hor rendous start and then had a good second half. Against Stephen F. Au stin, we played from the beginning. That’s wnat we have to concentrate on doing. And we need to stay healthy.” The Ags have been plagued by minor injuries all season. Starting forward Winston Crite is almost 100 percent after spraining an ankle, forcing him to miss the season opener against Alabama- Birmingham. David Thompson broke a hand and is out for awhile and Mike Clifford will have his hand X-rayed in the morning. The Ags will rely on starting guard I Don Mai bury, who is averaging 20.7 points a game, ami Crite, who is aver- laging 13.3 points and nine rebounds |per game. Meanwhile, the A&M women ca- gers weren’t waiting on its opponent to leave the cold weather. The Lady Ags were themselves stuck in the ‘white stufl” of Corvallis, Ore. after competing in the Big “O” Tourna ment. At the tourney, the Lady Aggies won perhaps their biggest non conference game in Coach Lynn Fiickey’s two-year stint at A&M. The Lady Ags used 24 points from senior Lisa Langston to defeat UCLA, 79-63, Friday night and stay undefeated at 3-0. Nette Garrett had six rebounds and 10 points and guard Paula Crutcher led the Lady Ags in re sounds with 10. However, A&M lost a heartbreak- [er to host Oregon State Saturday night in the championship game. [Down 43-31 at halftime, the Ags ral- [lied in the second half and came vvith- jin one point of downing the Beavers. When the buzzer sounded, the Lady Ags had lost their first game of the season, 70-69. Register with this coupon to WCV 25% any regularly priced gown purchased at our new store.
