The editorial staff reserves the right to edit letters for style and length. Each letter must he signed and must include the address and telephone number of the writer. Memorial’ is the key EDITOR: I am writing in response to William H. Clark’s Oct. 16 column claiming that the MSC is too for mal. I would like to ask him if he knows what the letters stand for. They stand for Memorial Student Center, the key word being “Memorial.” The MSC was built and dedicated in memory of those sol diers who have fought and died for our country and it is out of respect for these men that the peo ple entering the MSC remove their hats and mem- bersof the Corps of Cadets wear their uniforms. It is also out of respect that no alcohol is per mitted in the MSC or anywhere on campus grounds. If Clark would like “a nice area where people can congregate for a few beers and such, to listen to some good music,” may I suggest the Dixie Chicken? He wants dancing? The Hall of Fame. For Clark and anyone else who thinks the union at t.u. is so “par excellence”, Highway 6 runs both ways. Kimberly Motley Class of’88 EDITOR’S NOTE: Highway 6 does run both ways, but neither way will get you to Austin. High way 290 runs both ways, and it goes to Austin, but to get there from here, you have to take Highway 21, which also runs both ways. A short cut would be to take EM 696 — it runs both ways, too. Thanks Davis-Gary EDITOR: In view of the long-standing policy of the edi tors of the Aggieland not to include the fraternal aspects of Aggie life in their most auspicious publi cation, we would like to express our gratitude to the men (or should they be called boys?) of Davis- Gary Hall for their part in making Sigma Chi a part of the 1984-85 edition of the Aggieland. It is indeed an honor that Sigma Chi has thereby be come the first Texas A&M fraternity to be so priv ileged. We can empathize wdth the feelings of the men of Davis-Gary who long to be a part of our distin guished organization. Standing in front of our fra ternity house for their picture is as close as they are going to come, however. Nevertheless, we must admit that our house made even the boys of Davis- Gary look “simply mah-velous” (as our friend Fer nando would say). Keep up the good work boys! Scott Luna EDITOR 'S NOTE: This year, Greek organizations will be included in the Aggieland. A sprinkle a day EDITOR: We would like to congratulate Eugene Ray on the award for the sprinkler system. It was indeed a big job and he rose to the occasion. However, as residents of the east side of Puryear Hall, we have a few gripes concerning the system. First, Puryear has no air conditioning. To over come this minor inconvenience, the residents use box fans installed in the windows to cool our rooms. In a incident earlier this semester, the sprinklers outside our window (3B) sprayed into our fan and ruined it. At the same time, our carpet and other furnishings also were watered. We don’t have anything growing (I hope) in our room that needs watering. We didn’t think the joke about people needing to get wet was funny either. Second,_ the strip of land that is being watered is dirt. While we are not agriculture majors and are not experts on irrigation, it can be assumed that dirt won’t grow, no matter how much it is watered. The first gripe will cease as cool weather enters the area and we don’t have to leave the windows open. The second gripe will cease as soon as the dirt turns green. In the meantime, it would be a novel idea if the sprinklers in question were capped to avoid any further midnight showers. John B. Prosser ’88 James R. Quade ’88 Holiness for holidays EDITOR: Regarding your editorial on Oct. 8 to “keep the holy in holiday .. .” Apparently, this early Christmas syndrome is not confined to Bryan-College Station. The mall here in San Angelo opened its Christmas shop during the last week of September. Oh, well. ‘Tis the season to make money, fa la la la la, la la la la.
