Applications can be picked up now in tne Student Programs Of fice^ The pageant is organized, pro duced and executed by about 22 MSC Hospitality staff members and 12 subcommittees. Bonne Bejarno, executive director of the pageant, says. The project has grown into one of the largest professional projects funded by the MSC. "1 he whole reason the MSC spon sors the pageant is for student devel opment,” Bejarano says. “Not only for the contestants but for the pag eant staff, MSC Hospitality and the entire MSC.” The pageant is a franchise of the Miss Texas/Miss America Program. Over $5,500 in scholarships and gifts are awarded to the winner and the runners-up. The winner of-the pageant will represent A&M in the Miss Texas Pageant. Funds for the pageant are raised by selling $250 sponsorships to 20 area merchants every year. The sponsors get free advertising before the pageant through promotional events such as the Mr. Aggie Con test, fashion shows in the MSC and appearances at the Post Oak Mall. On Oct. 27 and 28, 20 Finalists and five alternates will be chosen af ter a screening process consisting of a seven minute interview and a three minute talent performance. The panel of five judges, chosen from the community and the campus, will look for someone with not only tal ent and beauty but for someone who is organized, a hard worker, can ex press themself well in public, and is aware of what is going on in the world and the community. After the 20 contestants are cho sen, they are offered various semi nars which the pageant staff hopes will help the girls gain confidence in areas such as walking and talent. The grooming seminar, which is learning how to apply stage and per sonal makeup, and the walking semi nar are mandatory. The talent workshop, which is taught by local people, nelps the contestants em phasize their good points. The fash ion workshop teaches the girls to dress in their own style. “We have reputable judges which makes the caliber of the pageant very high,” Bejarano said. The breakdown of the scoring is personal interview, 25 percent; tal ent, 50 percent; and swimsij evening gown, 25 percent, f The winner will be awn $1,000 scholarship to A&M.ilt ficial Crown and Trophy, a| wardrobe allowance for tbtj Texas Scholarship Pageant year free membership to j Way, a 1986 Cadillac for allo| appearances and a 14 karatgol diamond pendant.
