Free gifts Salespeople court Ags By MONA L. PALMER Reporter Need a new highlighter pen, a “chip clip" or a painter’s cap? Several long-distance telephone companies, newspapers and other service com panies are offering free gifts and special rates to Texas A&M students tnis fall. Concession permits and table res ervations must be obtained by all businesses wishing to advertise their services on campus. “Anything that will be of service to a student will be approved,” said Da- ralyn Wallace, conference assistant at the MSC. MCI, STAR-TEL, Call America and University Communications are the long-distance telephone services available to students, Wallace said. MCI is offering a special to A&M students which includes no fees, no minimum monthly charge and no hook-up charge, said Dennis Heinz, an MCI representative. MCI, Call America and Unversity Communcations will be available in the MSC until Friday. Tina Thompson, director of mar keting for Call America, said the company is offering 30 minutes free with no installation charge. University Communications has a $5 set-up charge, said James Stra- cener, a representative for the com pany. Sonia Benton, also a representa tive for University Communications, said that their company is the only company to offer information com paring university Communications rates with GTE rates on the phone bill. STAR-TEL is offering an “Aggie Special," which offers free set-up and no monthly charge, said Lisa Kastensmidt, a student representa tive for the organization. GTE long-distance service is also available to A&M students. Students can sign up for the service at the Ag- gieland Inn until Friday, said John Wallace, GTE Public Affairs Man ager. After Friday, students can re ceive service at the two GTE phone Correction marts located in Culpepper Plaza and in Ardan’s Shopping Center, Wallace said. Newspaper subscriptions are also available in the MSC. The Brazos News Service is offer ing subscriptions to six newspapers, said Charlotte Vass, a receptionist for the company. She said the rates have been discounted for the fall se mester. Also, USA Today is offering a free t-shirt with every subscription, Vass said. Aggies can also receive a free “chip clip" when they subscribe to the Houston Chronicle, said Julian McMurrey, the distributor for the Houston Chronicle. A student subscription is “almost half-price” and is available the entire year, said McMurrey. The Dallas Times Herald also has a table in the MSC. The Herald is of fering a $15.50 subscription for the semester, almost half of the regular subscription price, said Bruce Barry, a dealer for tne Herald. Students can buy subscriptions to the Herald until Friday in tne MSC, said Barry, but can receive the dis counted subscription until Sept. 13 at 3806 South Texas Ave. Aggies can find Eagle representa tives at the MSC and Post Oak Mall. The Eagle is offering student sub scriptions for $8.15 per month, said Gary Young, a representative for the Eagle. Students also receive an “Ea gle Highlights Texas A&M” high lighter, Young said. Cable services can be purchased from McCaw Cablevision until Fri day in the MSC, at the satellite office in Woodstone Shopping Center or at the main business office. At the Woodstone office, McCaw is giving away painter caps and AM- FM radios with subscriptions to Cin- emax or HBO. Refrigerator rental is another service offered to Aggies. Students can rent a refrigerator at the Stu dent Government office throughout the semester, said Mike Sheffield, a representative for Student Govern ment. In an article entitiled “Society ob sessed with perfect body’ ”~in Tues day’s Battalion, an error was made in attributing information and quotes to Bryan psychiatrist Dr. John Kin- ross-Wright. Kinross-Wright was not inter viewed, nor does his practice deal with anorexia or bulimia cases. The reporter, D’Anna Heideman, got the information from “Body Per ception is only skin deep,” a pamph let by Dr. Ken Buntonm. The Battalion and Heideman re gret the error.
