Have you missed Texas A&M’s intramural sports reg istration? Well Bryan-College Sta tion may have what you are looking for, says a city recreation official. Tony Scazzero, with the College Station Parks and Recreation De partment, says there is still time to get involved in a number of sports and sporting events being offered by the city. Scazzero says summer softball al ready has ended its registration. Their season begins Tuesday and ends in August. Adult soccer closed registration on Friday, but Scazzero says two sports have not held regis tration. Co-rec (a combination of men and women) volleyball and 3-on-3 bas ketball both will have sign-ups begin ning June 17-21. Entry fees are S70 per volleyball team and $90 per bas ketball squad. Scazzero emphasized that there will be no late registration or waiting lists. He says College Station has added a brand new list of events called the Gold Cup Series. “This is a brand new program,” Scazzero says, “and is aimed at being a sort of family fitness program. “But this is not exclusively for families, everyone should enter:” Scazzero says the Gold Cup Series will offer a different event each month. • July 13 — A 250-yard swim, one-mile run, 250-yard swim and two-mile bike race will be held at Bee Creek Pool. Entrants pay $5 to com pete. • August 24 — A l-mile swim will be held at Bee Creek Pool at a cost of . $2. Scazzero says College Station also will host four softball tournaments during the summer. • July 20-21 — Two tournaments ill be h( Women’s Open (TWAF) and the Women’s Class A. Both softball tour naments will be played at Central Park. • July 26-28 — The Junior Girls State Championship will be played at the Southwood Athletic Complex. • August 9-11 : — The Men’s B State Championship (ASA) will bat tle it out at Central Park in College Station. People wishing more information Id c ' should call the Central Park office at 764-3773 for more information. Paul Rieger, athletic supervisor for Bryan recreational programs, says getting on Bryan’s city teams may be tough, but not impossible. “Men’s Open, women’s open and men’s rec. (softball),” says Rieger, “is over and the season begins Monday (today). As a matter-of-fact, I’m working on the schedules right now. for “There still are teams lookin^ players. Just call my office and T can give interested people a list of the coaches who they should contact to arrange for a try-out or whatever.” Rieger says Bryan does not have a waiting list for teams or players. He says there are no other activ ities scheduled for this summer, pending new budgetary requests for next summer. The TAAS tennis tournament originally scheduled for May 17-19, has been rescheduled for June 28- 30, Rieger says. It will be open to all individuals, and they are eligible to enter three separate events for a $5 fee per event entered. (See accompa nying list of divisions.) will teld the same weekend. The Individuals wishing to get more information should contact Rieger’s office at 779-5622.
