A blood test is more reli able than a breath test, he says. How ever, the person must pay for the blood test, which runs $56.10 at St. Joseph Hospital. Humana Hospital does not give the test. However, for a second offense, Vance says the person ought to hire a lawyer because a lot of things can go wrong. Barron and Locke agree. Barron says, “The more compli cated the situation is, the more you need an attorney.” Locke says, “There gets to be some pretty serious consequences.” If someone pleads guilty of a sec ond DWI offense, he must spend at least 72 hours in jail if they plead guilty or if they are found guilty. His Rcense also is suspended for one year. The lawyer’s most impor tant negotiation is to try to obtain an occupational driver’s license for his client and do the neccessary paper work. Area law enforcement agencies are helping crack down on DWI ar rests. Since December, the College Station Police Department has had a task force of two officers whose only job is to apprehend DWI offenders. So far, the task force has arrested 126 people for DWI. The Bryan Police Department, the Department of Public Safety and the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office use video equipment to record the person’s actions. This can be used to prove the person was intoxicated. Vance likes the video tape system. “A picture is worth 1,000 words,” he says. The College Station Police De partment has video equipment but lasn’t set it up. * Vance thinks the College Station department should set it up because the department ar rests more students than the other area departments. He added that the experiment must also pass a critical safety inspec tion before it can be put aboard the space shuttle. “One mistake could ruin the pro ject and possibly create a catastro phe,” DeVore said. For instance, if the oxygen tanks that will aerate the fish explode, they could blast a hole in the space shuttle. The entire project requires new and sophisticated equipment to be designed, Karrick said. First, the tank that will hold the fish will have to be specially built so that a water current can be created to test how the fish orient themselves without gravity, DeVore said. The cylindrical tank must be leak proof so that it will not short-circuit the electrical system. A video camera and video cassette recorder will document how the fish react to their new environment. Two types of lights, beta and mini-flores- cent, will be used to help record the action and to keep the fish from going into shock if they are exposed to bright light after a period of dark ness. On top of all this, the container must be tightly insulated to withs tand the extreme temperatures in the space shuttle’s cargo bay. The . temperature ranges from about 300 de en •grees to minus 200 degrees Fab ineit. DeVore is designing a feeder sit tem that will keen the fish alive whi they sit on the launch pad, (whit may be up to a month), plusthefiw to seven days that they will space. He said fish previously havebett sent on the shuttle in plastic bags but they did not survive. DeVore and Karrick said the want to have better luck withthd experiment so that they also cai study how the fish reorientate tbei selves when brought back to earth. Carol Ellison, the newly- elected vice president of student services for Student Governe- ment, said that in the past, the meetings have been held in Rud der Tower, but next year the meetings will be at numerous lo cations on campus. “Next semester we will hold them (meetings) in different places around campus, like the A- 1 Lounge,” Ellison said. “We may havejsome meetings outside Rud der from noon to 2 p.m. That way, students passing by will be able lo stop and contribute to the meeting.” Tonight’s meeting is important because the new Student Govern- menl officers will be there, in cluding Sean Royall, the 1985-86 student body president, Ellison said. ernment about the issues and pol icies they feel need to be changed, she said. “We’ll take notes and take into account the complaint,” Ellison said. “Then we will investigate the problem and we’ll try to change them if we can.” “This meeting will give the new officers a chance to see how the Issues and Grievances meetings will lie run for next year,” Ellison said.
