The committee is designed to dis cuss various issues concerning Stu dent Senate and follow up on these issues. “But no one showed up for the last meeting,” said Wayne Roberts, former vice president of student services for Student Government. The committee tries to get feedback from the students about problems around the campus, he said. “We’d cut a lot of the malarkey that goes on if the students would make time to come in and voice their opinions,” he said. “I think students are pretty apathetic unless itsasj controversial issue. The group says it is urging its members and supporters not to do business with those on the list, but insists the action is not a boycott. “We’re not telling our people what to do, we’re merely suggesting things to them,” Ray Hill, caucus chairman, said in a recent interview. Gay leaders say the people and businesses on the list contributed to a campaign to fight two proposed ordinances that would have barred the city from discriminating against homosexuals in its hiring practices. The proposals were defeated by a 4- to-1 margin in a January referen dum. Councilman John Goodner, who spearheaded opposition to the ordi nances, scoffed at the the Caucus’ in sistence the measure is not a boycott. “I don’t think there’s anything il legal about it, and its entirely their prerogative to do it,” Goodner said. “I just think they ought to call it what it really is.” But Councilman Frank Mancuso said the group has simply pul gether a “hate list.” Among the targets of whalj leaders call the “economic respo® are several financial institutions including First City, Texas Ojf I merce and Allied banks —anditf doctors. Hill said the group’s not a boycott because “a designed to bring somebodydoM 11 their knees.” “But face it,” Hill said that we’re not about to bringAif Bank to its knees.” First City Bank officials said® should be removed from the list “We don’t belong on the list,"s* Jim Day, bank vice presidenti' public relations manager. “Wedid 1 get involved in the referendum was a conscious decision we if not to support either side.” V But Hill said at least one Firslfi office contributed to the anti] rights campaign.
