Mark White, whose staff had sought to keep quiet his planned trip to visit Texas Na tional Guard troops in Central America next week, Wednesday gleefully accepted an Army camou flage jacket from La. Gov. Bill Hobby. Hobby, who on Tuesday had been confronted by hundreds of college students angry over his plan to triple their tuition, arrived at a joint news conference wearing the jacket, which he promptly gave to White. “1 hope it’s no violation of (White’s press secretary) Ann Ar nold’s security to say that 1 under stand you’re going to Honduras,” Hobbyjoked. Arnold has imposed a news black out on reporters covering White’s trip to visit the guardsmen who are on two weeks of maneuvers in the Central American nation. “And you’re aware of course of the abiding concern over the health and safety of the governor (that) the lieutenant governor always has,” Hobby said, putting the jacket on White. “So, governor, I want you to be in visible.” A laughing White thanked Hobby for the gift and noted that Hobby had been cornered in a Capitol hall way by the protesting college stu dents. “The real threat tea our life and safety is because of the Legislature,” White quipped. “Certainly the stu dents yesterday were evidence of that. “I realize that some people thought I was going on a dangerous mission down there, but the truth of the matter is I was just pleased to be getting out of Austin.” About 450 Texas National Guard soldiers are in Honduras, where they are scheduled to participate next week in the Big Pine III train ing mission with regular U.S. Army troops and the Honduran army. Political tensions in that nation have been running high, but Guard officials and White’s office have in sisted that both the mission and the governor’s planned trip are safe. n SOUTHERN LITT EATRES NO DISCOUNT MATINEE ON EASTER SUNDAY $2.50 Till 1st Show starts FRI. & SAT.- At POST OAK SATURDAY AT CINEMA 3 Students with I.D.
