Slouch By Jim Earle “This will give you good luck on your finals. After all, how could you not believe in ashes from this year’s bonfire?” Ambassador’s future role still to be decided United Press International WASHINGTON — U.N. Ambas sador Jeane Kirkpatrick, a dis gruntled diplomat and outspoken conservative, said she and President Reagan agreed Tuesday to meet again after the inauguration to dis cuss her future in his second term. A stern-faced Kirkpatrick entered the White House briefing room after her 30-minute session with Reagan and said she had to catch a plane back to New York for a speaking en gagement. After studying her Finger nails for a few moments, she looked up and said: “I met with the president. I gave him a report on how were’re doing in the General Assembly so far. He agreed we’re doing a lot better than we used to, but there’s quite a way to go. “We talked a bit about the future and agreed to talk again sometime after the inauguration. That’s all I’m going to have to say,” she said, turn ing and walking out the door as re porters shouted questions that went unanswered. A White House official said the two most likely would meet in Jan uary, soon after Reagan publicly is sworn in for a second term Jan. 21. Although the one-on-one Oval Office meeting had been expected to clarify Kirkpatrick’s future role — if any — in the administration, her 'Merry Chri>tiv.i> DON'T RUIN THE HOLIDAY BREAK BY BECOMING A HOLIDAY ACCIDENT STATISTIC... ASK A FRIEND TO DRIVE YOU HOME IF YOU'VE HAD TOO MUCH TO DRINK. A MESSAGE FROM THE ALCOHOL AWARENESS PROGRAM DEPT. OF STUDENT AFFAIRS 845-5826 concise report left the issue up in the air. Administration officials could not say whether or not Reagan discussed otner positions for Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick, one of the more vocal conservatives to hold a Cabinet-level position in the administration, has made it clear she is frustrated at the United Nations and has said she would leave the post when the cur rent General Assembly session ends, an event scheduled for next week. Kirkpatrick, 58, has expressed in terest in a top foreign policy job, such as national security adviser, a post currently held by Robert Mc- Farlane. That move, however, has been vigorously opposed by Secre tary of State George Shultz, who views such a change as a challenge to his position. In a recent interview, Reagan said there were no vacancies in his ad ministration “worthy” of her skills, although White House spokesman Robert Sims noted, “The president has said he’s interested in keeping her.” Kirkpatrick’s academic back ground in Latin American relations made her a prominent voice in the administration’s evolving polices to thwart Marxist adventurism in the region. Her tough-talk style won her ethusiastic applause at last August’s Republican convention.
