Pec. 5-9 At Ataiirurul Dinners, Activities brighten season By KARI FLUEGEL Staff Writer The 1984 holiday season will get into full swing with lights, songs and Santa Claus as the City of College Station sponsors seve ral Christmas events during the next few weeks. To start the season off, in Cen tral Park Monday, the College Station Parks and Recreation De partment will host a ceremony to light the park’s Christmas lights. Through funds donated by Jack Lester of Bryan, this year the parks department was able to purchase lights to decorate Cen tral Park for the holiday season. Several of the trees, the park pa vilion and baseball field backstops have been decorated with lights, said Susan O’Connor, parks de partment program supervisor. During the lighting ceremony, College Station Mayor Gary Hal ter wul give a dedication and Les ter’s son Lance, 5, will turn on the lights. Following the ceremony, Christmas carols will be sung. After Monday, the lights will be on from 5 to 11:30 p.m. every night until Jan. 1. Also in Central Park, Santa Claus, provided by the Bryan- College Station Jaycees, will be present to visit with children Dec. 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. The same nights, area 4-H members will provide a living nativity scene. Door prizes also will be given away during the two-day event. Prizes include Christmas wreaths, poinsettas and surprise boxes with the grand prize of a Christmas tree. Refreshments will be served. A mail box for letters to Santa Claus will be located in Central Park near the park department office, O’Connor said. The Community Center will be the place for the third annual College Station Christmas Festi val and Open House Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Medicare Jazz Band, the TAMU Women’s Chorus, South Knoll Boy’s Choir, Breakdancers from the Gallery of Dance Arts and A&M Junior High drama students. Members of the Brazos Valley Art League will be at the festival to exhibit their works.
