With the score tied 1-1 in the sev enth inning, Paul Runge and Alex Trevino led off with back-to-back singles off Houston’s loser Dave Smith (3-3). Bill Dawley replaced Smith and Perez sacrificed. Dawley intentionally walked Milt Thompson to load the bases. Rafael Ramirez bounced into a force, scoring Runge. Trevino also scored when Ramirez beat Bill Doran’s relay attempt at the double play. It was Atlanta’s seventh straight triumph over the Astros this season and their second of the series. Houston took a quick 1-0 lead off Perez (12-6) in the first. Terry Puhl reached on a fielder’s choice, ad vanced on Phil Garner’s single and an infield out and scored on Jerry Mumphrey’s base hit. The Braves then tied the score off starter Joe Niekro in the sixth. Thompson singled with one out, and the rookie stole second. Ramirez lined a single to center, scoring Thompson. Atlanta scored an insurance run off Dawley in the eighth. Dale Mur phy singled, stole second, took third on Astro catcher Alan Ashby’s throwing error and scored on Range’s single to center. United Press International SEATTLE — Bobby Jones slammed a three-run homer and Buddy Bell added a solo shot Wednesday night to lead the Texas Rangers to an 8-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. It was only the second triumph for Texas in 12 games this season with Seattle. Mike Mason, 9-12, scattered six hits and struck out six to pick up up his first victory as a starter since July 6. It was his fourth complete game. Bell hit his 10th homer of the sea son off Mariners starter Matt Young, 4-8, in the first to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Seattle tied the score 1-1 in the first when Jack Perconte singled, was sacrificed to second and scored on A1 Davis’ single. Texas scored three unearned N runs in the fourth. Dave Hostetler led off with a single and was safe at second when Perconte dropped a re lay throw from third baseman Jim Presley on a George Wright grounder. Alan Bannister singled to load the bases. An error by shortstop Danny Tartabull allowed Hostetler to score. Billy Sample drove in Wright with a sacrifice fly and Gary Ward hit an RBI single to make it 4- I. Texas opened the lead to 7-1 in the seventh. Jones drove an 0-1 pitch from Bob Stoddard over the right- field wall with Gary Ward, who had walked, and Bell, who had been hit by a pitch, aboard. It was Jones’ fourth homer. In the ninth, Wright’s single scored Tolleson from second base to make it 8-1. Spurs negotiate contract with Lucas United Press Internationa] SAN ANTONIO — The San An- I tonio Spurs Wednesday matched a j contract offer sheet tendered by the B Houston Rockets for veteran point B guardJohn Lucas. Spurs General Manager Bob Bass said Lucas now has a binding con tract to play the 1984-85 NBA sea son in the silver and black of San An tonio. Lucas’ contract with the Spurs is a reported $200,()()() a year for the next three years. Lucas agreed to the Houston of fer Sept. 4, and under league rules, the Spurs had 15 days to decide whether to match it or let Lucas join the Rockets.
