Hijackers refused asylum United Press International CAIRO, Egypt — The two hijack ers of an Iranian jetliner appeared stranded at a military airfield Wednesday after Egypt rejected their request for asylum and the plane’s crew refused to take off, po litical sources said. The two, described by the A1 Akh- bar newspaper as Iranian military officers opposed to the Islamic re gime of Ayatollah Ruhollah Kho meini, hijacked the Boeing 727 over- Iran Tuesday. They made a refuelling stop at the Gulf state of Qatar, where they re leased 142 passengers and crew and then flew to Cairo. Egypt promptly rejected their re quest for asylum. Officials, who han dled a similar hijacking of an Iranian Fokker 27 less than two weeks ago, were reported to be angry at the rep etition of the incident and eager to see the plane leave. In Paris, a French government of ficial said his country “does not ac cept air piracy. It is an act of violence that is unacceptable. We do not wish to see the plane land here.” But France had the same position on the last Iranian hijacking, and eventually let it land. The four hi jackers were placed under house ar rest in Bordeaux. The plane’s departure was de layed further because the three crewmen were reluctant to take off without rest, the sources said. Parenfs rights reinstated Child’s word inadmissible ' United Press International AUSTIN — Uncorroborated statements by a child in a sex abuse case are inadmissible in court unless they are made immediately after an alleged incident occurs, the Texas Supreme Court said Wednesday. The high court’s ruling reinstated the parental rights of a man who had been accused by his former wife of sexually abusing their 3-year-old son during weekend visits. In reversing a ruling by the 10th Court of Appeals in Waco, the tribu nal said hearsay statements the child made to his mother, grandmother and stepfather were inadmissible, and the evidence was insufficent to affirm a jury verdict from Johnson County. Priscilla Kay Green obtained a jury verdict terminating the parental rights of Wesley Dwight Richardson in 1982 after statements from the child indicated he may have been sexually abused. But the Supreme Court said there was no independent corroboration of the testimony about the abuse. “A hearsay statement by a small child may be admitted ... if ... the statement was a spontaneous utter ance made under the immediate in fluence of an exciting event,” wrote Chief Justice Jack Pope. But Pope said the alleged abuse “preceded the statements by several days.” “Evidence that the event could have occurred does not satisfy the requirement,” the court said. “It must be sufficient to support a find ing that it did occur.” The child did not testify during the trial, but thejury was shown a vi deotaped interview given by a case worker for the Texas Department of Human Resources in Fort Worth. However, the court said the video taped interview was “highly prejudi cial” because of leading questions asked by the social worker.
