AUSTIN — In the wake of
child sex abuse charges filed
against employees at the Texas
School for the Deaf, Gov. Mark
White announced Thursday
rules for reporting suspected
child abuse and neglect had
been clarified for state employ
ees.
Criminal charges have been
filed against several employees
of the Texas School for the
Deaf, where administrators
failed to report suspected inci
dences of abuse to authorities
for several weeks.
While formed a special
group within his office to clarify
guidelines for reporting sus
pected abuse and neglect within
state agencies.
The rules require incidents to
be reported immediately to the
Department of Human Re
sources and local law enforce
ment authorities.

Zent, merchandise organizer
for the auction, says the station
hopes to equal the amount
raised last year — $50,000. This
will enable them to renew their
subscriptions to the McNeil- -
/Leber Report and Nightly
Business Report programs.
If the goal is not reached
then the shows will be dropped,
said Zent.
“We hope that people will
ralley around and bid high,” he
said.
The two station fund drives
earlier this year failed to reach
the anticipated goals. This is the
reason for the very hopeful atti
tude of the station.
The auction will last until
April 12, and will he on the air
from 7 p.m. to 12 midnight.
The contributed items to be
auctioned this year number
485, totaling $45,284 in retail
