Plitt Cinema III 846-6714 Purple Hearts: Cheryl Ladd and Ken Wahl star in this new film which is set during the Vietnam war. This is the story of their love which must withstand the power ful problems war presents. Is their obligation greater to their love or their country? R. Romancing the Stone: Michael Douglas stars with Kathleen Turner in this spoof on adventure movies. This is the tale of a novelist who follows a soldier of fortune and be comes involvein his adventures, or rather, his misadventures. Danny DeVito is also a part of this wild treasure hunt. PG. Tank : James Garner stars in this film about a man who is pushed too far when his son is framed by the local police. Garner rescues his son from this injustice by mowing down everything in sight with his tank. An entertainging film, but probably not an Academy Award winner. PG. Manor East 823-8300 Greystoke: The Legend of Tar- zan. Lord of the Apes: This new Tarzan film concentrates on the duality of the Tarzan character. John Clayton, the seventh Earl ofgreys- toke, was adopted by an ape colony after he had been tragically orphaned in Equatorial Africa by his human parents. Tarzan grew up to become the leader of this ape colony and does not even recognize that he is human. Tarzan is then rescued and restored to his proper place in society in Scotland. The former earl's American ward falls in love with Tarzan, the man who is part noble and part savage. PG. Splash: Director, Ron Howard, has a new film starring Tom Hanks. In this picture, Hanks falls in love with a beautiful woman. But there is something fishy about this relation ship. The woman is a mermaid. The most aquatic ce of the year. PG. Ice Pirates: An action film set in the space age world. Robert Urich and Mary Crosby star in this futuris tic comedy. PG. MSC Cepheid Variable 845-1515 Dragonslayer: This movie has it all as far as medieval tales. There is a dragon that lives under the king dom of Urland which the people sacrifice virgins to in an attempt to keep the dragon pacified. A young magician must face the dragon him self to save his people and the rest of the virgins. PG. Friday. 7:30. Rudder Auditorium. Tron: Flynn, a computer wiz, tries to break into Encom, a communica tions conglomerate. Upon entering Encom, the Master Control Program sucks Flynn into the computer itself. From inside the computer, Flynn must battle MCP and its forces. (This could be a new perspective on video games.) PG. Saturday. 10:00. Rudder Auditorium. Time Bandits: John Cleese and Sean Connery star in this adventure film about a young boy who is kid- napped by six dwarves. The dwarves are on a trip through time and space by following their map that has all the time holes of the universe marked. PG. Friday. 9:45. Rudder Auditorium. Soylent Green: An all time sci-fi favorite. The earth is over crowded and the only thing left to eat is Soy lent Green. What is this food supply and why is it so plentiful? This is a film that really makes you think ab out the world's future. Short film: Bugs Bunny, SQUAWKIN' HAWK. PG. Thursday. 701 Rudder. 7:30 and 10:00. $1.00. Galaxina: The story of a sensuous policewoman whose territory cov ers several galaxies. She and her crew try to recover the magic "Blue Star" from a distant planet. Galaxina is also a robot that has feelings and emotions. R. Saturday. Midnight. Rudder Auditorium. Invasion Earth 2150:Invasion of the Daleks: Peter Cushing stars in this film about the earth being invaded by the dreaded Daleks. The earth's only hope. Dr. Who, is a man who can travel through time and save the world. Unrated. Friday. Midnight. Rudder Auditorium. Post Oak 764-0616 lYlisunderstood: This him stars Gene Hackman, Henry Thomas of ET fame, and Huckleoerry Fox of Terms of Endearment fame. This is billed as a movie for all kids who want to be hugged and a movie for all parents who want to love and understand. Sounds like a heart warmer. PG. Against All Odds: A new film which stars Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Ward in a love triangle. This film depicts the power of Los Angeles and how it almost consumes the main characters. Lucky for the viewers, the main characters escape to the Yucatan which is a fantastic background for the film.R. Racing with the Moon: Sean Penn and Nicolas Cage star in this romantic comedy about two young men reaching manhood in the 1940's. Both young men experience love and friendship in this film about their final days before enter ing the service. Elizabeth McGov ern stars as the object of Sean Penn's desires. This sounds like a very promising film. PG. IVIoscow on the Hudson: Sneak Preview. 7:35. Robin Williams stars as a Russian circus muscian who de fects while on tour in the United States. R. Schulman Six 775-2468 Ivear Window: This an Alfred Hitchcock suspense thriller which has been re-released. For all you horror fans, you can't go wrong with a Hitchcock film. PG. Police Academy: This is the story of an American city where the mayor abandons all eligibility res trictions to enter the police academy. Steve Guttenberg stars as the officer candidate who tries to get himself thrown out of the academy and falls in love with a female officer candidate at the same time.R. Footloose: 1984's answer to Flashdance. Kevin Bacon, of Diner fame, stars as the free-style dancer from Chicago who moves to a small town. Of course, he is not wel comed with open arms by the town elders and the town minister is es pecially repulsed by him. But the minister's daughter has different ideas about the new kid in town. This film will be remembered for the dancing and the music. PG. Children of the Com: The new Stephen King movie features a town where the children have taken control and killed everyone over the age of nineteen. This is all part of the ritual of their cult. These children worship a god in the com who requires them to crucify adults. This movie is based on a short story by King. R. Terms of Endearment: Shirley Maclaine and Jack Nicholson along with Debra Winger star in this heart- wrenching story. If you have not seen this movie yet, don't miss your chance. R. The Prodigal: World Wide Pic tures presents the modern story of the prodigal son from the Bible. The son who abandons his family and his religion only to return to the true path, family and faith. This is part of Billy Graham's media attempt to spread The Word. A surprisingly good film. PG. MSC Aggie Cinema 845-1515 The Draughtsman's Contract: This is the story of an artist who is commissioned to do twelve draw ings of an estate in England during 1964. Through this simple story, a great many more complex subjects are explored. The rich setting pro vides an exciting visual experience and the dialogue provides an intel lectual experience as well. Unrated. Sunday. 7:30. Rudder Theater. $3. Key Largo: A classic Bogey film. Bogart travels to Key Largo, Florida to visit Lauren Bacall who plays the widow of an old friend. Of course there is a gangster or two thrown in for good measure. Unrated.
