I Music By LOUIS HILGARTNER Staff Columnist I know you're out there. I see you as you're going to class, waiting for the bus, standing by a fountain or sitting on a bench somewhere. There is no escaping my gaze. Now there is no escaping the question I'm about to ask you: Why haven't I heard from you? Are you content to be cattle, shuffled from one holding pen to another by the hourly chime of the clock.? I know you have an interest in music. Some form of music — any form of music. Are you into punk, new wave, heavy metal, jazz, classical, opera, tri bal hunting chants, or what? The reason I ask is because I sit up here, cloistered away in the At Ease department of The Battalion, shut off from the out side world, chained to my word Louis H i 1 gartner processor with only a loaf of bread and a coke. Now, sitting around sucking suds and writing about music all day long isn't really a bad way to spend your college ca reer — in fact, I rather enjoy it — but it does tend to take you out of the mainstream of reality. That's where you come in. You see, my chain is only so long and it hampers my ability to travel across time and space in search of the perfect music scoop. Not only that. I'm interested to find out where your interests lie. This is your big chance. If you ever wanted to pass on trivia, concert dates, recording sched ules, club actvities, irate letters, fan mail (ha ha), favorite artists, amusing anecdotes ... ANY THING, my operators are standing by. Here's how you do it: you can (a) call me at 845-3312 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday or (b) drop by the At Ease desk of The Battalion in 216 Reed McDonald. Meanwhile, back at the ranch: notes I hope you all had a great Spring Break and managed to keep yourself in one piece through the St. Patrick's Dav Weekend. I was able to catch some good neon and incandes cent rays and sample the brew- master's art. Seriously, your contributions are welcome and I'll use what I can. Other note-worthy tips: The album from the much-bal- lyhooed Sammy Hagar/NealS- chon Band should be here soon. The advance single "Sittin' On Top" is getting plenty of airplay on album rock stations such as KZEW-98FM in Dallas. Look for the re-release of the second Def Leppard album High And Dry. Although this album did well in our part of the country, it didn't fare so well in other parts of the nation. Hopefully the smash success of Pyromania will bring sales up the second time around. CONCERTS: Ted Nugent with guest The Mi chael Schenker Group ... Thurs ... at the Coliseum in Houston. Get ready for an evening of no- holds-barred rock and be sure to bring cotton for your ears if you don't want them to bleed for a week — Young Ted likes to crank it up. .38 Special and Golden Earring ... Fri., Mar. 30 ... at the Sum mit in Houston. Sounds like the makings of a good show al though I wouldn't have ever thought of these two bands playing the same gig. What next, Willie Nelson with special guests the Go-Go's? Eddie Money ... Fri., Mar 30 ... at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas. It's good to see Eddie going strong again. His brush with death from a drug overdose a couple of years back have given his last two albums No Control and — more recently — 1 Where's The Party? songs with a more discerning look at him self. Adam Ant... Wed. April 4 ... at the Coliseum in Houston. "Ant- music" comes to Space City as Adam "I may dress funny but I make great music" Ant brings his show to town. Be sure to wear your Goody Two Shoes. Nugent and Shenker ... Thurs., April 5 ... at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Scorpions and John Butcher Axis ... Thurs., April 12 ... at Reunion Arena in Dallas. This is the Scorpions' Love At First Sting tour, and I guarantee one thing: they come ready to rock. Billy Joel ... Sat., April 14 ... at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Call him whatever you want to: ar rogant, tough, wimpy or ego centric. Just be sure to include: superstar and millionaire. UXJ1 UU S&ICIOLU J ■Friday, TVIardi 23, 1984 3 March AfVlNTO W CTeaM.
