Q Yippies still exist, their book is out Those longing for the lost days of the 60s, the gone days of love beads, peace signs, protests, Hippies and Yippies — yes, Yippies — rejoice. “The New Yippie! Book” has arrived. Included in the book are 750 pages of material re printed from the Yipster Times and Overthrow, as well as new stories on the demon strations and civil disobedi ence that the Yippies have participated in during the past 20 years. Yippies — a term that was derived from the Youth In ternational Party — are still alive, writes the author, Wil liam M. Kunstler; they aren’t merely a relic of past times. They’re just protesting dif ferent ideas. In part of the book, Kunstler describes how he be came a Yippie. “Well, I don’t know any body who set out in life in tending to be a Yippie. Other people tell you you’re a Yip pie. It is hurled as an accusa tion. At first you deny it. ‘No,’ you say, ‘I just like to hang out with Yippies, smoke their dope, listen to them babble... .’ You become a Yippie by de grees, until one full-mooned night you look in the mirror, don’t see anything and real ize: ‘So that’s what I am! I’m a Yippie.’” Other tidbits include: “The Wrath of Rhon,” which tells protesters who want a nuclear freeze that cryogenics is the answer. If Ronny won’t give in, simply freeze him. Finally, for those who like what they see and want to be come a Yippie too, Kunstler offers this advice: “Stand in the moonlight, turn the Clash up loud, sprin kle yourself with cannabis dust, whirl around 3 times and whisper: ‘I believe in Yip pies... .’” Seafest stresses fun in moderation Spring Break is nearing and it’s time for the beachf ront of South Padre Island and Seafest. Budweiser is hoping it’s for you.
