Jim Wright and Kika de la Garza, both D-Texas, have asked Edu cation Secretary Terrel Bell how he plans to allocate $30 million in the Education Department’s budget for alien education, aides said Tuesday. The $30 million became available after Congress approved it as part of a con tinuing resolution to keep gov ernment afloat until lawmakers approve appropriations fund ing for the Department of Edu cation and other federal agen cies. House Majority Leader Wright and de la Garza have been working to help states like Texas with the financial burden of providing free education to illegal alien schoolchildren as ordered by the U.S. Supreme Court. “My colleague and good friend, Jim Wright, battled hard to convince the House to approve $30 million now and to use it in implementing prog rams under my Emergency Im migrant Education Act,” said de la Garza. The act has passed the House but has yet to be considered in the Senate. However, last weekend’s action makes the money available for the federal government to “assume resfs sibilities in this matter,” la Garza. “Alien education has cri an unfair burden on local districts that lack necesij buildings and technical facl for educating immigrantdj dren — and this places a buri on local taxpayers when theft eral government should besy porting this kind of educaiij effort,” he said. Kika de la Garza, D-Texas, will not attend next week’s public hearing on the matter. The group also has gathered 10,000 signatures on petitions seeking the presence of Sen. The bill called for spending reductions totaling $143 billion in fiscal years 1983- 84. • Ron Paul has served three terms in Congress, and was un opposed for re-election to his third term in 1982. Paul says he believes Congress and the executive branch must cut spending not only domestic ally, but also in the military and in foreign aid. His work in cutting spending and taxes won him the highest rating ever given by the National Taxpayers Union. He served on President Reagan’s Task Force on Private Sector Initiatives — a program that shifts the responsibility of housing, health care, education and other important services from Washington to local com munities. Mosbacher said the program is important because it redefines essential services and what the government can and should be doing. He is an attorney and mem ber of the Texas Bar. He says he does not think the decision should made on the basis of one sii® issue. In 1978 Krueger ran ford U.S. Senate and lost in a da race to Sen.
