Record series offered to kids United Press International DALLAS — Stephen Star has a theory about music — and chil dren. “Music is your memory’s greatest tool,” said Star, “and children absorb musk like a sponge absorbs water.” Star, a former commodities broker who hopes to play pied piper to the nation’s children, was in Dallas recently promoting the first two albums in a planned series of 15 records designed for children aged 4 to 14. “Rainbow Rock” and “Rain bow Country” are the two music al vehicles that Star hopes to use in launching his entire “Rain bows and Stars” series of albums. The two albums of original songs written and produced by Star follow a format designed to enlighten aS well as entertain. The song titles, ranging from “So Much to Learn” to “Land of Dreams” leave little doubt about the audience Star is trying to reach. The lyrics span topics from pet care to patriotism. “No one’s done this,” Star said. “I think I’ve got something special. A way to reach kids. “I got sick and tired of music performed by guys wearing collars with whips and chain! being shoved down kids’ throal) about sex and drugs and vio lence,” Star said. “I call my music real feel good music.” Star said his own childhood was marred by alcoholism and j t abuse, and his current enter prise gives him a shot at a “sol of second childhood.” But he said his primary goa taking on the music businesslt claims is turning young childrei into adult buyers. “The music industry hai sugar-coated fluff for kid under five,” Star said. “Theh listens one or two times am that’s it and there’s nothingels there. “They’ve created buyers out of 8- and 10-yeai olds.” So Star created his musical alternative for kids, priced ai $5.98 per album. “This is my main goal, togeta kid singing,” he said. “Get:a' :J singing my songs and w you’re getting is turning tit live peer pressure into positivl peer influences.” TASC0 TIRES SALE THRU OCT. 12 3 846-1912 is On S.
