Both Texas A&M tennis
teams will be in action again this
weekend — the men will stay at
home to play in the A&M Invita
tional while the women travel to
Austin for the Westwood Inter
collegiate Invitational.
Both teams will be competing
in their second tournaments of
the year.
The women won the Lady
Cardinal Tournament last
weekend at Beaumont, beating
LSU 7-2 and defending tourna
ment champion Houston by a 5-
4 score.
Coach Jan Cannon said
Wednesday the team will face
even tougher competition in
Austin. “Two of the top 10 teams
in the country will be there —
Texas and Trinity,” she said.
Texas Christian University
and A&M complete the tourney
roster.
Cannon was realistic about
her team’s chances this
weekend. “The tournament will
probably be decided between
Trinity and Texas, but we’re

The men will be staying at
home this weekend to play in the
four-way A&M Invitational.
Southwest Louisiana, Houston,
and Louisiana Tech complete
the field.
The men are coming off what
coach David Kent calls a slightly
disappointing performance last
weekend at the University of
Texas tournament.
“Our performance was a little
bit lower than I expected,” Kent
said Wednesday. “But we should
be much improved this
weekend.”
Doubles play was the strong
point of the team at the UT tour

Connell won the doubles com

Joey Perry and Mark Smith 6-2,
6-0 in the final.
A&M had three out of the
four doubles teams in the semi

The Arkansas Razorbacks
closed out preparations Thurs
day for the Texas Christian
Horned Frogs on a note that left
head coach Lou Holtz optimistic
about Saturday’s game.
“This was the best Thursday
the team has had this season,”
Holtz said. “It’s hard to evaluate
our mood, but we kept the men
tal errors to a minimum today.
“TCU (0-2-1) will be a diffi
cult task,” he said. “I know we’ll
play hard. I hope we play well.”
The Razorbacks will be trying
to rebound from a 13-10 loss last
Saturday to the Ole Miss Rebels.
They got just 56 rushing yards
on 38 plays, and Holtz indicated
after practice Thursday that he
still had not decided on starting
running backs.
He said Carl Miller, Derrick
Thomas, Bobbie Joe Edmonds
or Billy Warren all were still in
the running for starting slots.
He had indicated earlier that
