"El Paso will have to become more frugal” with the water re sources available, said Dr. Her bert Grubb, director of planning for the State Water Resources Department, adding that the citv-instkuted water conserva tion programs are helpful. A hearing was scheduled next Monday for Ernest “Son ny” Mahard and his wife. Helen, owners of the Mahard Egg Corn, in Prosper Assistant U.S. Attorney Dan Maeso of San Antonio said Tuesday the couple had signed an agreement to enter guikv pleas on all 10 counts filed against the corporation in ex change for having charges filed against them dropped. A Del Rio grancfjurv handed down the 10-count indictment in June, charging the Mahards with' transporting and conspir ing to transport illegal aliens to their farm, kxated about 40 miles north of Dalfas. William Chambers of the Im migration and Naturahxataoo Service office in Dallas said the \ Mahards allegedly paid from $200 to $350 per worker to have Mexican workers shipped to Prosper. “aince January of this vear. we have arrested 179 illegal . aliens on their premises;" Cham hers said. He said he did not know how many illegal workers had been tunneled through what he cal led the Mahard “paaehae." “All I can say is thr\ have • brought in large numbers of aliens and have paid tor their transportation.” he said. Chambers said the Mahard paid other people to bring the Mexican workers north then deducted the coat from their H 94144. “This is a normal practice, a- bondage-tvpe situation," he said. “Last August the INS in Florida picked up an alien who said he had worked on a chicken farm north of Dallas. They had kept him there because he owed them money for transportation. . and they wouldn't let him leave. “We were satisfied that he was talking about the Mahards," Chambers said Maeso said his office had also requested the Occupational Safety and Health Administra tion investigate she Mahards “in > connection with the livinffcondi-. twins of these people (illegals).’' 81 Skyline 14x70 2 bdrm 2 bath hooked up on new lot with porch skirting and parking siabe, excel lent lor student must see to ap preciate. 779-7543.* 1740 Diamonds Vk Ct »«ru 10 Cl II to IF AH •hms* sH colors Osmonds lor Agg* rings OIA carttkod diamonds and in- vaotmant porttoko* Rar# and unuaual ootorad gam# Qoid lawaky by might, oompiaia custom jowoky sarvtoa Far bstow mental pneos Can OavkfMsn- ntngs. 44. 846-8297 tasns Bill: Don’t consider f appointees’ party i I Saltwater aquarium Bah, 893-11889 17*7 Sottirttv Fraternity houae Term* avaBa- bla, 409-882-1719.
