The summer layoff didn’t pear to hurt Coach Bob Brock s the slightest, as the gies swept a double-header arch-rival Sam Houston ;e6-0,4-3, Tuesday at Penber- Intramural Field. Freshman pitching sensation Andaya baffled the Lady irkats with a two-hit perform- in the opening game, striking nine and walking only one. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Brock gathered his players together and urged them to make things happen offensively. “Let’s start (hitting the ball) right now,” Brock said to the Aggies. His pep talk worked. A&M scored all six runs in that at-bat. Leadoff hitter Cay McNutt slammed a homerun over the left fielder’s head to give A&M a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Mary Schwind, singled, and advanced to second on a walk to Paige Peterson. Schwind then scored on Rose RufRno’s single to make it 2-0. Andaya singled to score Peter son, and after Judy Trussell struck out, Cindy Cooper reached first on an error to the shortstop. Patti Holthaus then singled to score both Ruffino and Andava. Cooper came home later in the inning to make it 6-0. A&M had nine hits in the open ing game, led by Ruffino’s 3-for-3 performance. Andaya was 2-for-4. Transfer Yvette Lopez took the mound in Game 2, but her per formance didn’t quite match up to Andaya’s. But an opportunistic Aggie offense saved the day, as A&M scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning to win. The Aggies scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third to take a 3-0 lead over the Bearkats. But a wild pitch and an error allowed SHSU to score three times in the top of the fourth and tie the score. It stayed tied until Trussell reached first on an error in the A&M half of the seventh. Cooper and Holthaus singled, and Trus sell scored on a wild pitch to McNutt to end the game. The biggest problem the Aggies had, Condon said, was a simple case of nerves. “We were just a little nervous and we didn’t play well under pressure. Our offense didn t play as well as we expected, and our serve receiving wasn't that good.’’ But Condon did find some bright spots. “Our defense was ex cellent,” she said. “And I’d say our overall performance was excel lent.” Condon added that the team has been working hard to improve on the problem areas, especially offensive passing and shot place ment. “So far it’s been working out well in practice,” she said. “But were ready to see if we can handle ourselves better in game situa tions.” Condon said the Aggies are pre pared for a fight Thursday. “It’ll be a good match. Transmission erican Cars in-Honda oyota Discount with jdent l.p. & VISA Accept'd] There’s a very poor, remote village in Colombia, South America. The children often go to bed hungry, and sometimes they’re seriously ill, too. But their parents are unskilled peasant farmers with little or no land, and they can’t make enough money for extra food or medical care. There’s a village school, but most of the families are too poor to afford books, clothes or lunches. So boys’ and girls’ minds and bodies are going to waste. These Village Children Desperately Need Hdp Right Away-And Hope For The Future. The parents and children are anxious to help themselves, so all they need is assistance in dealing with their most immediate problems —beginning with those of the children. And that’s the purpose of the Village Of Hope program: to give children and parents a helping hand. Through Christian Children’s Fund, the world’s largest non- sectarian child sponsorship organization, over 20 campus groups have joined together in this effort. We Need Your Help If We’re Going To Reach Our Fund Raising Goal Or $25,000. Your support will go toward schoolbooks, clothes, nutritious food, medical attention or whatever the village children might need most. And with supplemental funds, the village could benefit from necessary improvements which might include a new well. Or courses for parents in the basics of nutrition and hygiene that will help their children enjoy healthier lives. ( Contributing To The Village Of Hope Is So Easy.
