for hearing on windfall tax

United Press International
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The
U.S. Supreme Court has agreed
to hear arguments April 27 on
the federal government’s appeal
of U.S. District Judge Ewing T.
Kerr’s ruling in November that
the windfall profits tax is uncon
stitutional.
In January, the court had re
jected the justice department’s
request for expedited consider
ation of the appeal and in Febru
ary had agreed to consider the
case under usual procedures.
That would have meant the
arguments would have been
heard next term and the a ruling
would probably be handed
down next year.
But court officials told a
Cheyenne newspaper Monday
that the justices have reversed
themselves and will speed up the
vise, hearing arguments
