Fernadez and Hanna im proved the No. 1 doubles team’s record to 15-3 with Monday’s victory. As a team, the Aggie Ladies now stand at 14-9 this spring. And Cannon said she’s needed the new faces to fill in for some talent lost last year. Cannon said she was impress ed with the play Monday, as the Aggie Ladies were only a victory shy of upsetting one of the Southwest Conference’s top two teams. Next for the Aggie Ladies is TCU. That meet will begin Fri day at 1:30 p.m in the Omar Smith Tennis Center. Texas A&M will then have one more dual meet against Texas in Au stin before the SWG holds its tournament in Corpus Christi April 22-24. In that meet, the SWC will give championships for each team position, so there will be a champion No. 2 doubles team, No. 1 singles player, No. 2 singles player and a champion on each level. It was like he was driving a Ferrari and everyone else was driving a Chevrolet.” When he heard that, Balles teros quipped, “Back home, I ride a bicycle.” Ballesteros, who turned 26 Saturday, said he wasn’t sur prised no one made a run at him after he jumped into a comman ding lead. “The key on this course is you have to wait for the birdies,” he said. “Try to play aggressive and this course will kill you.” See MASTERS page 10 Baseball squad drops another to Raiders The Aggie baseball team lost its ninth Southwest Conference game in a row Monday, drop ping an 11-10 decision to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lub bock. For the second time in two games, Texas A&M blew a big lead in the late innings to lose. The Aggies, in last place and two games behind seventh-place TCU, now have a 2-10 league record and a 21-14 season re cord. The three-game sweep gave Texas Tech a 6-6 conference re cord and a 16-14 overall mark. Texas A&M, which had blown an 8-0 lead in the second game of Sunday’s double- header with the Red Raiders, lost a 9-3 lead when Texas Tech pounded senior pitcher Rick Luecken with two runs in the fifth inning, two runs in the sixth and four runs in the eighth for the victory. Luecken, whose record fell to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in the SWC, pitched 7% innings, giving up 16 of the Raiders’ 17 hits and all 11 runs (10 earned). Luecken walked one and struck out four. Texas A&M committed four errors and left 12 men on base. Texas Tech struck first with a run in the second inning, but the Aggies tied the score in their half of the third. Texas A&M then took a 4-1 lead in the fourth, but the Raiders came back to within 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Then the Aggies broke loose for five runs in the fifth, giving them a 9-3 lead and what seemed like an easy victory. But Luecken, who’s struggled all season, couldn’t hold off the Texas Tech offense, as it chip ped away and scored the win ning run in the eighth. Jimmy Zachry, who had two home runs in Sunday’s double- header, had a three-run homer in the eighth to tie the game at 10-10. For the Aggies, Tim Cart wright and Todd Edwards each had three hits, while first base- man Buddy Haney had two hits and three RBI’s.
