Troy Erickson was sus pended from Dobie High School March 14 for refusing to remove an earring from his left ear lobe. The school board voted unanimously Tuesday that the teenager could not return to school until he removes the jewelry. Bill Erikson’s stepfather, Gurley, said he was not sur prised at the school board’s ac tion. He said his next step was to take the matter to court. Guriy said neither the dress code nor the handbook of the school district prohibits boys from wearing earrings to school and he feels his stepson’s civil rights have been violated. Gurley, an insurance sales man in the Houston suburb, said school officials told him they opposed the boy’s earring be cause men who wear earrings are either drug addicts or gay. “Troy’s civil rights have been violated and I can’t go form I’m not going to let it sit stillno«.
