There are three women in the formation, some V-l cadets wear decorations from prior military service and some are in their middle and late twenties. Ogura says most V-l cadets are in the Corps to seek military commissions — a fact of which the outfit is proud. All juniors and seniors in the outfit current ly hold contracts leading toward military commissions. Ogura says that since he has been in the Corps, only one cadet in V-l hasn’t accepted a commission. “An outfit is basically cen tered around its freshmen,” Ogura says. He says he thinks more freshmen cadets in V-l will facilitate more participation in the outfit as they become up perclassmen. outii la: Company V-l started recruit ing in local high schools to attract more high school seniors who would like to join the Corps and live at home. This year the outfit has four freshmen. “We’ve come a long way since I’ve been in the Corps,” he says. “When I first joined we had a problem with seniors not caring about traditions.” Ogura says he would like more civilians who have sen in the military to join the Many students do not that there is an off-camp outfit. | Ibarra, one of three who uses the shuttle bus semi says he often is amused by stares of other off-campus: dents who are surprised to him in uniform. • 1 “fve heard people say, must be going to visit hist friend,”’ he says.
