The Big Event, to be held Sunday, is a service project sponsored by the Student Government in which students will volunteer their time to the community. by Robert McGlohon Battalion Staff The finance committee of Student Government, in open meetings Wednesday night, heard requests for additional staff by representatives of both the A.P. Beutel Health Center and the Department of Student Activities. The committee, which is re quired to make budget recom mendations to the Texas A&M Vice President for Student Ser vices Dr. John J. Koldus, has been hearing requests since Sunday from organizations funded by student services fees. Dr. Claude Goswick, director of the health center, requested a $200,000 budget increase. He told the committee that the largest increase would come in the area of professional salaries — part of which is due to the mandatory six percent pay raise to all health center employess, with the rest to be used to hire a new full-time physician. Goswick answered questions — about the budget and about the operating proceedures and efficiency of the center — for almost two hours in the Memo rial Student Center conference room. Goswick said that the prob lem of long delays in the health center has been “considerably decreased”, and that the waiting period to see a doctor is “at a minimum.” A new physcian, however, would improve the situation even more, he said. The Student Government vice president for finance, Blaine Edwards, asked Goswick, “Just how bad do you need another doctor?” Goswick replied, “Well, I’ve promised him a job.” Dr. Carolyn Adair, director of the student activities depart ment, also spent two hour answering the committee’s ques tions. She said she wants to give raises and promotions to two Student Developement Special ists and, in doing so, create two new entry-level positions. She also wants to hire a receptionist and a book keeper. Committee members will vote on Adair’s request, as well as the requests of the health cen ter and other departments funded by student services fees, at a closed meeting on Saturday. The committee will forward its request to Koldus, who will forward it to President Frank E. Vandiver, who will give it to the Texas A&M Board of Regents for final approval. t ’83 Perm Special | Get an $18.50 Hair Cut and Style ■ and receive a Style Perm of your choice for only $6.50, a total of $25.
