Battalion Staff
he Department of Land-
e Architecture held its 12th
ual workshop this weekend,
year’s theme, “Recycling
lAmerican City,” was geared
lard showing the students the
an "“elite of design for quality not
htity.
The emphasis was on creat-
ig cities in which people can
k, entertain, recreate and
gregate.
The workshop brochure,
written by Lane Marshal, stres
sed, “The revitalizing city of to
day has made people its stock-in-
trade...The city as the center of
entertainment and social in
teraction is the city of tomorrow.
Ironically, this city of tomorrow
is uniquely attractive to the com
mercial entrepreneur. The spe
cialty shop owner, the re
staurateur, the purveyor of fine
spirits, even the street vendors
thrive wherever people congre
gate...The issue is design quality
not quantity.”
The program included four
seminars, a design charette — a
study of design problems — and
several recreational activities, in
cluding a barbecue, dancing at
the Texas Hall of Fame and the
“3rd Annual Blowout Bash.”
The workshop was first held
in 1972 and involved only three
universities: Texas A&M,
Louisiana State University and
Oklahoma State. This year there
were nine universities partici
pating: Texas A&M, the Univer
sity of Arkansas, the University
of Arizona, the University of
Florida, the University of Texas
at Arlington, Kansas State Uni
versity, Louisiana State Univer
sity, Oklahoma State University,
and Texas Tech University.
Julie Coleman, the chairman,
said that the number of people
attending the workshop seems
to be increasing every year. She
said the program is a learning
experience, and an opportunity
to meet with students from
other schools.

Begin believes land
promised to Israel
United Press International
TYLER —The Rev. Jerry Fal-
well, founder of the Moral Ma
jority, said he has been assured
by Israel’s prime minister that
the small nation eventually will
control an area that includes
parts of Egypt and Turkey.
“Israel’s (Prime Minister
Menachem) Begin shares the
Biblical view of the promised
land,” said Falwell in a copyright
story in the Tyler Courier-
Times-T elegraph.
He said Begin, whom he
termed a personal friend, told
him that the first book of the
Bible predicts Israel eventually
will have boundaries on the
Euphrates and Nile rivers and
will include portions of Iraq,
Syria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia,
Egypt, the Sudan, Lebanon, Jor
dan and Kuwait.
Begin is the first prime minis
ter to believe in the literal truth
fulness of the Old Testament,
Falwell said.
Begin said Israel was not
aggressively trying to take the
land, Falwell said. “All he is
doing is preserving that which
has been delivered to them.”
He said the United States was
trying to “blackmail” Israel into
turning over the Sinai to Egypt
at Camp David.
The evangelist said God views
nations by their relationship to
Israel.
“God deals with nations in re
lation to how nations deal with
Israel,” he said. “I believe God
blesses America and has blessed
America because we have bles
sed Abraham and have blessed
the Jews.”
