The student said that the underrepresentation of Hispa nic students is not the fault of the University. “It’s just culture, some (His- panics) don’t really care about a higher education,” he said. “Those that do go to the Univer sity of Texas because they hear more about it.” Davis said that the attitude of minority students toward Texas A&M may keep some minority students from coming here. “Minorities may feel it is too hard to cut the grade or that they stand out and feel that something may be done against them,” Davis said. “We need to get the idea out and across to minorities that Texas A&M is an equal opportunity school and let them know that everyone has an equal chance of getting a degree here.” Minority students also may feel alienated at Texas A&M, but that this feeling is usually initi ated by the minority students, Davis said. ‘T hey come here if school where a minoritiii majority and it’s a shock,” he said. In stead, he found the remains of anicent whales. Since vetebrate fossils had never been found in that part of Egypt, Franks called upon Southern Methodist University paleontologists for help. Although the zeuglodonts were more than 50 feet long, their slender skulls made them look “a bit more like crocodiles than whales,” he adds.
