1,500 illegal alien workers in
Texas showed that most of them
were in the United States pri
marily for economic reasons and
many earned above the mini
mum wage, according to the re
sults of a survey by a Houston
consulting firm.

ates of Houston conducted the
study for the Governor’s Task
Force on Illegal Aliens by inter
viewing more than 1,500 un
documented workers in all parts
of the state. The questions were
asked by bilingual interviewers.
Most of the aliens used for
the study were undocumented
workers who had been arrested
by the Immigration and Natur
alization Service and were being
deported to Mexico voluntarily.
