Maris Karklins, 41, was ar raigned Tuesday in Ottawa Coun ty District Court on five counts of first-degree murder for the slay ings of Robert Paulson, 42, his wife Mary Jane, 40, and their daughters Cynthia, 18, Carla 13, and Casey, 8. The Paulsons, of Allendale, Mich., were found shot and kil led in their home March 13. Authorities said would not discuss evidence or possible mo tives until further court pro ceedings begin. A date for the next court hearing will not be scheduled until court-appointed attorney Joseph C. Legatz confers with his client and Judge Jacob Pon- stein, a court spokeswoman said. When asked by Ponstein if his name was Maris Karklins, he answered “that is one of the aliases I use, among others." Karklins said he also goes by the names “Sun Yat Sen and Adolf Hitler.” Neighbors said Karklins had a Nazi flag flying outside his pa rents’ home before he was arrested Sunday. Police also found a picture of Hitler and Nazi literature in his bedroom. Undersea robot to probe shuttle’s rocket boosters United Press International CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA says a deep-sea robot the size of a compact car w ill be used to poke through the wreckage of the shuttle’s rocket boosters that sank in the Atlantic after Col umbia’s fourth launch. The two-armed robot will search for the boosters’ tape re corders which officials hope w ill help explain what went wrong after the rockets peeled away from the spaceship two minutes after blast-off on June 27. The $36 million casings, which propel the orbiter into space, are supposed to float.
