B In the House GOP campaign cipmmittee’s television ads, ^ors pretending to be Carter land O’Neill chuckled over huge Peiicits tor which the Republi cans would like to blame the Democrats. “It was worth the production cost to get Tip O’Neill as irri tated as he was,” Edward Rol lins, White House political affairs director, said with a laugh. Announcing a halt to the ad campaign for which he said $2.6 million was allocated, Rollins ex plained, “They just didn’t say anything.” He said only those who follow ad news is good ^or space shuttle, -4 iastronaut claims politics closely would recognize the actors as portraying O’Neill and Carter. O’Neill said Wednesday that the ads’ assertion Reagan inher ited the recession was a “bogus claim.” He continued: “Apparently, the president himself did not get the word. In his speech last night, he once again tried to shift blame for the recession to his predecessor. He also repe ated another bogus statement, that ‘there have been no budget cuts.’ “Both these statements are a desperate attempt to escape blame for the two most impor tant results of administration policy: massive unemployment and brutal cuts in the social safe ty net. “The president is in political quicksand. The more he squirms, the more he sinks.” Chris Matthews, an aide to O’Neill, said: “The Republican ads were a lie, a dishonest ploy to shift blame for the Reagan re cession.” He said ABC and NBC had refused to air the ads without verification for the claim that the Democrats left Reagan with the recession. CBS refused on the grounds that it was too early in the congressional campaign to show advertisements. Matthews, who saw the ads aired by local affiliates in Washington, called them “the desperate kind of thing you do in a campaign when you’re los ing — you throw mud.” Rep. Tony Coelho, D-Calif, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Com mittee, denounced the ads as false when they were unveiled. The Best Pizza In Town! Honest. Hundreds of school children tve an enthusiastic welcome to ie astronauts at the first stop on their tour to promote the shut tle’s robot arm, which was de signed and built by Spar Aeros pace Ltd. of Toronto and first used in space last November. The youngsters sat on the edges of their seats as the test pilots showed new films of the arm in action and laughed at scenes of the astronauts trying to eat and dress in zero gravity. In an interview later, Fuller ton played down reports that the Columbia program was being shifted away from scientific pur poses toward military goals. “There’s a misconception that the space shuttle has some new dramatic military capability in it self,” he said. “If you mounted guns on the wings and bombs in the cargo bay, you couldn’t do a thing with them.” But he agreed the shuttle was unbeatable as a launch vehicle and said “we plan to use it for military payloads as well as civi lian.” 'an Am initiates ew airfare war lanciaiai United Press International JMIAMI — Another full-scale airfare war has erupted with Pan , American World Airways mHflC Slashing ticket prices between Florida and a number of major jnerican cities. d several # Pan American is offering $99 i an all-Amtfcets — a reduction of almost nty High Sep) percent — for flights from ked the cosBost major Florida cities to New outheasterr.Bork, Washington, Atlanta, Dal- oyd McWw ie grant-iiHI Jue to souk j g violatioti-'l evident," 1 rent. So instead of listening to their bodies, many people’s first inclination at the sign of an ache or pain is to take a medication to cover it up. This is like turning off a fire-alarm without making an attempt to put out the fire. LISTEN TO YOCIR BODY. Pain is important to your well-being. It is nature’s early warning signal, a life and death message relayed through your nervous system that tells you when something is wrong. As such, pain is merely a symp tom and not the cause of most health problems. Therefore, the sensible approach to health is not to merely turn off the pain (or treat the symptom), but rather, to find the causes and correct them. If you suffer from one or more of the 8 Danger Signals, you shouldn't just ignore them. Although you might “tough it out” and the severe pain may eventually go away, you could be left with permanent, irreparable damage that might show itself later as another, more serious health problem.
