The Aggies count on Richardson to pick up needed points in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, and the Horns, who are extremely strong in the field events, look for Jakobsson to win his specialties, the shot put and the discus. Both athletes delivered Saturday in Austin when Texas A&M and UT competed in a duel meet, but neither one was the hero. UT’s Oddur Sigurdsson earned that title. The anchor man in the Horns’ 1,600-meter relay team made up a 25-yard deficit on the Aggies’ Vernon Pittman to give UT a first-place in that event and the overall team victory, 81-72. Richardson, the NCAA Indoor 60-yard dash champion, defe ated UT’s Herkie Walls twice, winning the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Walls finished second in both events. Jakobsson continued his domination of the shot put and discus, winning the shot put with a throw of 66-6 1/2 and the discus with a throw of 189-4. The Aggies led the meet 72-67 with two events left — the 5,000 meters and the 1,600-meter relay. The Longhorns took all three places in the 5,000-meters, including a first place finish by Sam Sitonik. Those victories gave UT a 76-72 lead going into the 1,600-meter relays. Sigurdsson, who won the 400-meter run in a time of 49.62, ran his leg of the 1,600-meters in 45.4 to overtake Pittman and give the Longhorns the victory. r »C" =MK: Something Else Hair Salon Would like to congratulate all “Class of 82“ graduates (A&M & High School) with a special 8 00 haircut (cut only) and our lash and brow dye for 5 00 .
