Vice presidents to be chosen Vice president monitors student fees junior Finance Round Rock Current activities: Senator — business at large, finance com mittee — MSC Council monitor, liaison — college of business stu dent council. Conference on Student Government Affairs delegate, Muster committee, traditions council, Who’s Who selection committee, fish camp counselor, Class of ‘83 council. What is the Student Govern ment vice president of finance? According to the Student Government Constitution, the vice president shall chair the fi nance committee which shall be responsible for legislation of stu dent service fees, student gov ernment funds, and all monies of student interest. As noted above, serving as the student service fee allocation advisory board is the major re sponsibility of the vice president of finance and the committee. My major concern in this area is to introduce and implement a zero-based budget process to the actual allocation hearings and the various student service budgets. This would involve breaking each requesting ser vice down into programs and re evaluating them according to anticipated benefits, costs, time schedules, and expected con sequences if the program is not implemented. Each program would then be ranked according to priorities to best insure the validity of the budgetary esti mates and ultimately insure the best service return to the stu dents. Is a university museum more beneficial to the students than a special events center? b. Should more dorms be re novated or built at the additional cost to existing dormitories and if so, is percent of present cost of rent a fair means of distributing that additional cost versus an across the board amount? 2. Supporting the MSG Build ing Studies Gommittee primari ly concerning the installing of an automated teller (MPACT) on campus. 3. I am really excited and de sirous of serving Texas A&M University and the student body to the best of my ability. If you have any questions or even any suggestions of your own con cerning monies of student in terest or the student service fee allocations, please call me. I will welcome your consideration, in terest and support. senior accounting Richmond Presently, I am serving as one of the Student Senators from off- campus Ward II. In addition to my senate position,! am also a member of the Finance and Stu dent Services Committees. Dur ing this past year, I have also served as chairmen of the Kyle Field Storage Distribution sub committee and on the Special Campus Canvass Committee. Because of the substantial amount of time and energy which I have placed in serving on the finance committee, I have learned the delicate inner work ings of the committee that need to be known to run it successful ly. I am fully qualified to assume the position of vice president of finance. As its vice president, I will di rect the finance committee in re- junior accounting Abilene As a candidate for vice presi dent of finance I am qualified and willing to serve the students at Texas A&M. I am actively in volved in Student Government as assistant comptroller and I serve on the finance committee and the intramurals advisory committee. In addition, I have been involved in the Aggie bon fire as an ’81 crew chief and 82 yellow pot. By serving as an ac tive member of the finance com mittee this year and participat ing in each step of the student service fee allocation process, I feel I have attained the in-depth knowledge necessary to act as vice president in ’82-83. Also, as a member of the Student Gov ernment Executive Board this year, I have gained the know- viewing the student service funds which have previously been allotted. Armed with these facts, the committee will then conduct budget hearings to gain additional information which will be used in the allocation pro cess. Only after a caref ul and de tailed review of all areas which receive student service funds will these funds be allocated. In this day and age, prices are continually rising—and this fact is being reflected in the increas ing amount of student service fees paid by the students year after year. One goal that I will have as vice-president will be to allow the absolute minimum in crease, if any at all, in student service fees while guaranteeing that the benefits received from the areas which these fee ser vices will be maintained at their present or a greater level. One ledge of how the executive branch and the legislative branch intermingle and oper ate, and I can use this experi ence to effectively head this committee. I am applying for vice presi dent of finance because I want to play a more active role in the allocation of the student service fees at Texas A&M. In order to keep student services top-notch with maximum funding, I would like to continue the prece dent of limiting the allocations only to services that benefit all Aggies. My goal for 1982-83 will be to keep the stude e fees as low as possible, but at the same time continue to provide the best services available. I firmly believe in continuing the precedent that as long as student service fees are paid by students to provide services for students. David Gorka way to accomplish this will be to continue implementing “user fees.” The students who use these services should be the qneswho pay for a majority of their cost instead of having the entire-stu dent body subsidizing them. Mark Hackfeld the control of the funds should remain with the students and not the administration. 1 would like the opportunity to continue the fine leadership of the past with what I have to offer as vice president of finance for 1982- 83. Student leader reviews external affairs sophomore agricultural economics Houston Running for a student govern ment position is simply a neces sary evil to reach a desired end. I am running for this position in order to serve my constituency, the student body. Next year this position will be of extreme im portance because it is a legisla tive year in the Texas Legisla ture. Important issues that will affect students next year are: proposed cuts in financial aid, 100 percent tuition increase and attacks on the Permanent Uni versity Fund. As external affairs vice president it will be my job to represent your voice before the stateJegislature, as well as con tinuing to provide services in the community for Aggies. In the past two years, my ex perience within the committee has included: programs director for the Gonference on Student Government Association, chair man of Easterwood Airport pro ject (a demand and feasibility study of attaining additional air Fred P. Billings service), Texas Student Associa tion liasion (2 years); GOSGA communications director 81 and the Northgate Project (to build a lighted night park be hind the Dixie Ghicken). Other student government experience includes: executive aide, fresh man aide. Ward II senator. These superior qualifications and experience, coupled with my own personal ability to com municate makes me the best can didate for the position. This position is a particularly difficult one. The reason that I am the only qualified candidate is because of my extensive ex perience on the committee for the past two years. freshman finance Dallas With your vote as support, I will, as vice president of external af fairs, be responsible for ov er seeing designated activities be tween the Texas A&M Student Government and outside in terests. I’ll work with the com mittee throughout the year to plan, promote, and carry out a four-day Gonference on Stu dent Government Associations (GOSGA). I plan to expand GOSGA and incorporate a vast variety of schools throughout the U.S. I will acquaint students with the goods and services in the area, the business/consumer relations subcommittee pub lishes the “Discovering Aggie- Jay Holland land” and has joined forces with the People Book, Inc. to publish a coupon book. I’ll expand this committee and use it to enhance local businesses' interest in the students of Texas A&M. I’ll ex pand on the current legislative affairs subcommittee which rep resents the views of A&M stu dents at the state and national level. I’ll work hard and oversee each of these activ ities which are vital to aid in the ef f icient repre- sentat ion of all students at Texas A&M. My qualifications meet the de mands for the position for which I am running. My activities at A&M represent my varied in terests, positions of responsibil ity and ability to represent the student body. These activities include Student Government senator. Student Government external affairs. Student Gov ernment “Discovering Aggie- land” committee. Student Gov ernment relations with Gitv Hall, Student V, Student V Fish Gamp counselor and Student Y Sphinx Polaris. With mv desire, motivation and 1 previous in volvement in various Texas A&M activ ities 1 can belter the structure of external affairs as well as the development of new ideas and activ ities. I’m excited about the future of external affairs and the participation of other students at Texas A&M. With vour vote I can better rep resent vou and vour ideas.
