APRILS 10am -6pM Attorney says arson signs found in Westchase Hilton United Press International HOUSTON — “Burn trails,” possibly marking where gasoline was poured, were found in a burned-out hotel room at the Westchase Hilton Hotel where a March 6 fire killed 11 guests, said a lawyer representing two charged hotel employees. Houston Fire Department Deputy Chief Dale Everitt on Friday would not confirm or deny the claim of attorney Wil liam Rosch III that the marks exist, saying the investigation is not complete. Everitt defended the Arson Bureau’s investigation, which turned up no gasoline or .accelerants in debris at the fire scene, saying, “Arson Bureau personnel are trained investiga tors. “As I understand it, Mr. Rosch is an attorney,” Everitt said. “He is not trained in what causes a fire.” Rosch said the “burn trails” were found in an area of Room ■104, where the fire was con tained. Investigators represent ing the hotel’s insurance com pany said they found fire debris with traces of gasoline there. Fire officials doubt the authen ticity of that evidence. Rosch represents hotel mana ger Erich Huemer and night desk clerk James Harvey, who were charged with misde meanor fire code violations, call the Fire Department They are to be tried in municipal promptly. Huemer is charged court April 7. with not filing a hotel evacuation Harvey is accused of failing to plan with firefighters.
