A local Battalion/Page 4 March 12,1982 Resident worried about rezoning issue by Jean Kiser Battalion Reporter College Station resident John Honea of 819 Krenek Road told the city council last night that he and several other residents liv ing in that area were worried ab out rental property being de veloped there. The majority of land in the area is zoned for single family dwellings. Honea said he was worried the rezoning of a nine-acre tract located on the north side of Krenek Tap Road east of Texas CATAMARANS & SURF JETS Avenue would result in du plexes being built and would conflict with existing single family homes. Real estate agent Jim Behling requested the council rezone the land from single family R-l to townhouse and condominium R-3. Present zoning regulations allow for R-2 developments — duplexes — to be built in R-3 zones. But an ordinance going be fore the Planning and Zoning Commission and the council in the next month would end R-2 developments in R-3 zones with out a conditional use permit. Councilman Jim Dozier assured Honea the council would not review a development plan for the tract until the new ordinance was approved. The council approved the re zoning request with the stipula tions that they would vote against, and notify Honea of, any plans for developments other than townhouses. The council also unanimously approved the rezoning of a 22- acre tract in the Crawford Bur nett League, located on the north side of F.M. 2818, from R-l to apartment low density R- 4. Council members also autho rized an application for a grant from the governor’s office to in crease the salaries of personnel working in the juvenile unit of the police station. (512) 991-9490 t *★★★★★★★★★★★★★ iw- by Beverly Hamilton Battalion Reporter The date for Silver Taps may be easier for students to remem ber if the Texas A&M Tradi tions Council is successful. The council is having stu dents in environmental design classes design a logo that will be easily recognized. The council hopes when students see the logo they will immediately asso ciate it with Silver Taps, David Imes, Silver Taps chairman, said. Imes said many students fail to see the notices posted around campus the day of Silver Taps and miss the ceremony. The council wants to put up logo signs the day of Silver Taps at campus bus stops so students will be aware of the ceremony that evening. “We want these signs to re flect the dignity and respect of Silver Taps,” Imes said. “We don’t want them to look like advertisements.” The council wants students to design the logo since the cere mony is for students, Imes said. The council did not think a pro fessional would be properly aware of the importance of the ceremony. The finished logo will be approved by the council. The council hopes to have the signs ready for the fall semester, Imes said. The council also wants to use the new logo in a brochure to be released this summer so new students can be come familiar with it. Just a little more to the left!
