Innocents The Innocents, Innocents (Boardwalk) — Where do those Californians get all those cheek bones? Easy to dismiss new bands that way, but these male models can rock. You may not like the first side: it sounds as if they drank too .much coffee before they went into the studio. The whole first side jitters, sputters and jumps and if you're not in the right mood, it can make you want to chew on the rug. But if you are in the right mood — at a party, say — songs like "Stop Shooting Up Stars" can make you dance. The second side is what you put on when you're a little drunk and feeling sorry for yourself— it's slow and sincere. It can get a little drippy ("Sob Story"), but when you're just home from Duddley's and feel ing blue, melodrama doesn't seem ridiculous. Nice album, but too New Wave for most. Daniel Puckett The Oak Ridge Boys Bobbie Sue, The Oak Ridge Boys (MCA) — The Oak Ridge Boys seem to have fallen into an "Elvira" syndrome, with a com fortable formula for an album: four songs that sound like "Elvira," three tear-jerkers and some nondescript, forgettable tunes. Their latest, "Bobbie Sue," fills the mold. The title tune is catchy, and doesn't sound too much like Elvira. But "So Fine" and "Up On Cripple Creek" do. And they have been done with more spirit by other groups. So much for requirement #1. "I Wish You Were Here," "I Wish You Could Have Turned My Head" and "Back In My Arms Again" make up the tear- jerker category. I don't remem ber what the rest of the songs were like. The album is just more of what made the Oak Ridge Boys famous: danceable country music with just enough life to make it popular with people who have never heard of the two-step. True fans will enjoy it, but if you're planning to go see the Oak Ridge Boys next week and just want a sample of their music, stick to some of their old er albums. Cathy Saathoff Aggieland getting taste of Mardi Gras The spirit of New Orleans' Mardi Gras comes to Texas A&M next Tuesday with a "Bac chus Ball" in the Grove. The Catholic Student Associa tion is sponsoring the dance, which will start around 9 p.m., after the TCU basketball game. Pat Wood, public relations di rector for the club, said every one should come to the dance in costume. Decorations will be in keeping with the Mardi Gras theme. Music will be provided by a disc jockey, and admission is 75<f. Wood said Mardi Gras is an important celebration for Catho lics, because it is right before Lent, a period of fasting before Easter.
