Lopez said the cause for the fire had not been determined. “I was just resting in the chair when I heard so much noise I didn’t know what was going on,” Erwin Schulde, 73, one of three surviving residents, said. “The landlady came and knocked on my door and told me the home was on fire, so I left.” Other witnesses said flames completely engulfed the white A fire department dispatcher said four or five fires had been reported in the King William area in the past year.
