local Battalion/Page i February 12,1982 Russian secretary emphasizes coexistence goal by Jennifer Carr Battalion Staff Mutually beneficial relations with the United States are vitally important to the Soviet Union, and peace and coexistence are the ultimate goals of its foreign policy, a Soviet diplomat said here Thursday. Pavelo Pavlov, the first secret- SPECIALS ary of the Soviet Embassy in Washington, gave the second keynote speech of the 27th Stu dent Conference on National Affairs. Pavlov has served with the United Nations in New York and Geneva and in the Soviet embassy in Vientiane, Laos, as well as in his native Moscow. “Although no SALT II treaty was at that time in sight (while he was in Moscow),” Pavlov said, “the 1974 Vladivostok agree ment (SALT I) actually pre vented the opening of new chan nels for the arms race. j I—ra||i Tuesday ladies nite Ladies Drink FREE All Night!
