Malone scores 38 to lead Rockets to victory
United Press International
HOUSTON — Moses Malone
poured in 38 points and had 32
rebounds — more than the en
tire Seattle team — in the Hous
ton Rockets 117-100 whipping
of the Sonics.
The win left Rockets’ coach
Del Harris ecstatic.
“This is the first time we’ve
been able to beat Seattle in four
tries,” he said. “This is probably
the best game we’ve played all
the way through this year.”
Thomas Henderson summed
up his feelings with an culinary
analogy.
“We were hamburger earlier
this year, but we are steak now,”
he said.
Malone and Elvin Hayes
dominated the backboards
Thursday as the Rockets grab
bed a 61-29 edge in rebounding
claiming their seventh
straight win.
The Rockets led 66-49 at in
termission behind 22 points
from Malone and 16 from
Hayes. Malone had 15 rebounds

Seattle fought back to pull
within 10 points at 95-85 with six
minutes left behind eight
fourth-quarter points from re
serve James Donaldson.
Houston’s Robert Reid,
however, scored three straight
field goals and the Rockets re
gained control of the game.
Hayes finished the game with
22 points for Houston and Bill
Willoughby blocked seven shots.
The win improved Houston
to 26-22 while Seattle slipped to
34-14.
Seattle coach Lenny Wilkens
seemed philosophical about the
loss.
“I’m glad this game is over,”
he said. “Tomorrow night we’ll
take it out on the next team.
Tonight, they were definitely
the better team.”
