By FRANK L. CHRISTL1EB

The Texas A&M men’s basket
ball team will participate in two
tournaments over the holidays,
traveling Friday to the Sun Car
nival Classic in El Paso and Dec.
28-29 to the Christmas Classic in
Las Vegas, Nev.
The Aggies’ first-round oppo
nent in this weekend’s tourney
will be Oklahoma State, which
finished with a 14-15 record in
1980-81. The other opening game
pits Georgia Tech against hosting
University of Texas at El Paso.
Texas A&M, 4-1 for the season,
will be led by forward Claude
Riley, guard Tyren Naulls and

Malone, Rockets send
Suns into shade 99-95
United Press International
HOUSTON — Phoenix had a
dazzling first five minutes and a
strong third quarter; the rest of
the time the Houston Rockets
closed ranks, hit what they were
aiming at, and pulled out a 99-95
win.
Defensively, the Rockets had
16 first-half rebounds.
Offensively, mainstay Moses
Malone was the game’s top scorer
with 34 points, and another 26
points came from players on the
bench, seeing action since Robert
Reid took leave last week to attend
to personal business.
One of the standouts was
second-year man Calvin Garrett,
who hit four key jump shots early
in the fourth quarter, when Hous
ton scored 10 straight points.
Rocket coach Del Harris said:
“This was a good team victory
tonight, with our bench contribut
ing 26 points, including key bas
kets in the fourth quarter. Our
offensive execution was about the
same as usual tonight, but thu
shots went in for a change.”
In the first five minutes of the
game, the Suns outscored the
Rockets 14-2. But the first quarter
ended with Houston owning a 10-
point lead at 31-21, and a 12-point
lead, 59-47, at the half.
Phoenix surged through the
third quarter, spearheaded by
Alvan Adams’ 11 points, to pull
even at 74-74.
Truck Robinson led Phoenix
with 21 points, while Dennis
Johnson added 20 and Kyle Macy
had 17.
The most erotic thing
in their world is money.

Coach Shelby Metcalf said the

“They play a 90-foot game — on

Flickerball Finale
It was an even match-up in the Class A Men’s All-
University flickerball finals, but the “Bucs” finally
edged the “Schu D.W.E.’s” 35 to 32.
The Class A semifinalists were all independent
teams, while all the semifinalists in Class B All-
University playoffs were dorm teams. In the Class B
tournament, “Dunn Godzilla” tackled “DC Gim-
meabeer” and won 28 to 22.
There were 71 men’s flickerball teams this year.
31 of those teams were independents, 32 were
dorms, and eight were from the corps.
In Dorm divisional playoffs, the “Puryear Athlet
ics” slipped past the “Dunn Lops” 20-19, while the
“Crocker Flickoffs” put away the “DG Mudballers”
in the Class A semifinals. It was the “Puryear
Athletics” over the “Crocker Flickoffs” in the finals.
The Class B match-ups were tough, but “Dunn
Godzilla” defeated another team from Dunn, the
“Dunn Silent Q’s.” At the same time “DG Gim-
meabeer” was putting the “Crocker B.C.’s” in their
place. In the finals “Dunn Godzilla” was victorious.
There were 18 CoRec teams. In the Class A All-
University semifinals, “D.W.E.’s’ defeated
“Doesn’t Matter” and “Hot Shots” dedged “R, W,
and B” 16 to 13. The “D.W.E.’s” outscored “Hot
Shots” 25 to 15 in the finals. In Class B semifinal
action, “Zip and the Zippets” went against the
“Stones” while “WGAFF” met the “2%ers”. It was
“WGAFF” and “Zip and the Zippets” in the finals.
It was close, but “WGAFF” won it 16 to 15.
Congratulations to all the winners and to all the
other teams who played and made the 1981 season a
success.
