Defensively, the Rockets had 16 first-half rebounds. Offensively, mainstay Moses Malone was the game’s top scorer with 34 points, and another 26 points came from players on the bench, seeing action since Robert Reid took leave last week to attend to personal business. One of the standouts was second-year man Calvin Garrett, who hit four key jump shots early in the fourth quarter, when Hous ton scored 10 straight points. Rocket coach Del Harris said: “This was a good team victory tonight, with our bench contribut ing 26 points, including key bas kets in the fourth quarter. Our offensive execution was about the same as usual tonight, but thu shots went in for a change.” In the first five minutes of the game, the Suns outscored the Rockets 14-2. But the first quarter ended with Houston owning a 10- point lead at 31-21, and a 12-point lead, 59-47, at the half.
