Lady golfers finish fourth in tournament
By GAYE DENLEY
Battalion Staff
Partners Monica Welsh and
Shirley Furlong finished fourth in
a field of 12 in the Bluebonnet
Bowl golf tournament in West
Columbia last weekend.
The tournament was played
with a partnership format, in
which the lowest score of the two
partners on each hole is recorded.
TCU won the competition, played
at the Columbia Lakes course,
with a three-day total of 208,
trailed by Arizona at 209 and SMU
at 210. The Aggies finished at 214.
Furlong tied for second indi
vidually with rounds of 75-76-77-
228, earning second place outright
on the third hole of the tiebreaker.
“Shirley really played a good
tournament, especially the first
couple of days, ” Coach Kitty Hol
ley said.
Holley added that the Bluebon
net Bowl was a “fun” tournament,
whose results do not count to
wards Texas A&M’s qualifying r
cord for the national tourname
next June. Welsh and Furlon
who had the best averages on fl
Texas A&M team over the f;
semester, were chosen to repf
sent the Aggies at the tourney
“kind of a reward for the fi
semester,” Holley said.
