Lnti-submarine plane crashes in Mediterranean

The plane was attached to Air

based at Cecil Field Naval Air Sta
tion in Jacksonville.
Ensign Debbie Martin said the
plane was about a mile from the
L T SS Nimitz when it went down 70
miles northwest of Sicily. The
Nimitz has been deployed in the
Mediterranean since late August.
Two rescue helicopters were
dispatched immediately to the
crash sight, but no survivors were
visible in the water.
Lt. Cmdr. Tom Connor, public
affairs officer in Norfolk, Va., for
the Atlantic Fleet’s Naval Air
Force, said the cause of the crash
was under investigation.
