The series begins Monday at 7:30 p.m. with Thomas Sterling’s film, “Superior-Land of the Woodland Drummer.” Sterling, a graduate of the School of Natural Besources at the University of Michigan, follows the wolf, loon, grouse and other wildlife creatures through four seasons of survival. “It’s an enjoyable and learning experience for any age child or adult,” Dale Bode, Brazos Valley Museum director, said. “What is so unique to the Audubon films is that the producer is there narrat ing, telling what happened behind the scenes, and people can actual ly ask him questions about any thing pertaining to the film. “The Audubon Film Series is a viable alternative to the movie in dustry. “There is a common misconcep tion about the Audubon films that needs to be cleared up. People think that ‘Audubon’ means birds — these are not just bird films. They include wildlife and plants too.” The film series, which Bode calls a nature experience, will con tinue with a feature on Canadian wildlife. John Wilson’s “Wild Canada: Coast and Coast” will be shown Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. In this film Wilson shows ho« Canada’s Atlantic and Pacific shores turn up nutrients attract an abundance of bird marine life. Other highlights include views of bald eagles, sea lions and peregrine fal cons. The last film of the series is Karl Maslowski’s “A Naturalist Afield, Part II,” to be shown Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. In this film, Maslowski, a natu ralist whose column appears in the Cincinnati Enquirer, chroniclesa year of the predictable and the un expected in the out-of-doors. His film reveals nature’s secrets in the urban wilderness of Cincinnati. The films will be shown at the Brazos Center, 3232 Briarcrcsl Drive, in Bryan. Tickets are$2.5i for adults and $1.50 for students, and children under 12 get in free Proceeds go toward educational programs and activities of the local society chapter. Other society activities include classes for children and adults, field trips, a summer nature camp for children and a Jan. 30 bird seed sale. The National Audubon Society, which recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, has more than 435,000 members, 10 regional offices and 450 chapters nation wide.
