Battalion football forecast Houston at Texas A&M Baylor at SMU TCU at Rice Arkansas at Texas Tech Texas-Oklahoma UCLA at Stanford Florida State at Notre Dame Michigan at Michigan State Dallas at San Francisco Seattle at Houston Season Records: OU — Texas heads up big weekend in SWC United Press International The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners, who get along with each other about the same way a rancher does with a range fire, stage their annual tension and turnover festival Saturday. Texas comes into the game ranked No. 3 and unbeaten. Oklahoma has sliced its own throat the past two weeks with fumbles and is ranked 12th with a 1-1-1 record. But those numbers don’t mean any more than the hot dog wrappers swirling around the hog barn when it comes to this game — which once again be displayed on national television beginning at J 1:40 a.m. The game requires the proper buildup, which it has again received, and the proper pronouncements from the coaches, which they have given. “About the only way you can get a ticket is to inherit it,” said Texas coach Fred Akers. “There is personal pride involved. “The pressure going into the Texas game is the same as it is every year, ” said Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer. “You have to play the best you can to have a chance to win the football game. Texas has won three of the last four meetings and if the Longhorns win again it would improve the Southwest Conference’s intersectional record — already the best of any of the major college confer ences — to 18-7. But while the Cotton Bowl is enduring another Texas-Oklahoma bash, the Southwest Conference will run off four league contests of varying import ance. Being served up Saturday will be: — Houston (3-1) at Texas A&M (3-1). Both teams have 1-0 conference records and the winner will survive to be ranked as a challenger for the SWC crown. The Aggies have been spotty and were for tunate to survive against Texas Tech last week. Houston, meanwhile, has unveiled a new quarter back in sophomore Lionel Wilson and seems to be rolling. But this will be Wilson’s first road test and it will come before a sellout crowd at always noisy Kyle Field. Wilson’s reaction to his first major road assign ment will play a key role in the game. — Baylor (3-2) at SMU (4-0). The defending cham pion Bears have struggled from the opening weekend while the Mustangs, having had a week off, seem ready to make a serious run at the league title. Baylor could not stop the persistent Houston run ning attack last week and will be hard-pressed this week to slow down the conference’s first and third leading rushers — Eric Dickerson and Craig James. n ^ m - - - Appearing LIVE Friday & Saturday Night “RAIN SHADOW” Cover *2 00 4410 College Main 846-0438 POTS OF PRIDE 1903 Old Hearne Rd.
