Mobil threatens operator
United Press International
TEXAS CITY — Mobil service station operator George Pugh, who
started buying no-name gasoline for his self-serve pumps to compete
with cheaper no-name gas nearby, has run into trouble with Mobil Oil
Corp.
Pugh said Tuesday Mobil has threatened to cancel his lease unless
he returns to Mobil products at all pumps within seven days. He also
said Mobil refuses to deliver the super unleaded his no-name supplier
cannot supply.

Pugh said Mobil officials blame the fact that his contract a
minimum 9,000-gallon shipments but he now wants only6,0fc:,
deliveries of super unleaded. They are trying to hold hir
contract.
Pugh said Mobil charges him 8 cents a gallon more thaim
dent marketers charge no-name dealers for regular and uiif.
gasoline. He said he questioned Mobil’s higher price and w
Mobil must cover losses on other investments.
”1 couldn’t compete with the independent dealers andgroct
was at the point where I had to make a change or just shut the da
let Mobil have the station hack.”
Pugh covered up the Mobil emblem on his regular and mi.
pumps two weeks ago, bought a load of no-name gas and started:
it cheaper. He said the lower price “makes me even with myk
competitor in Texas City.”
