THIS WEEK Movies Check theatres for specific times and prices. Movies subject to change without notice. All list ings are current through press time. Campus Theater 846-6512 American Pop: Ralph Bakshi's animated story about America and rock and roll. This movie traces not only American music, but also a musical family. But somehow pretty pictures aren't enough for this film, but the music will suffice. Rated PG. Richard Pryor — Live in Con cert: One of the funniest men in show business is filmed in one of the best concerts ever. Don't be afraid of Pryor's image as a foul-mouthed comedian — his work isn't that offensive and de finitely is unbelievably funny. Friday and Saturday at mid night. Rated R. Manor East 823-8300 Raging Bull: Robert De Niro won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as boxer Jake LaMotta in this gripping tale filmed in black and white. Martin Scorcese should have won the Oscar for his outstanding direction. Rated R. Postman Always Rings Twice: Jessica Lange and Jack Nicholson are a lusty couple in deed in the movie that tries to make sex as steamy as an active volcano. The two lovers plot to kill her husband, but it's not as easy as it sounds. See the review on page 3. Rated R. Devil and Max Devlin: Comedian Bill Cosby is full of hot air in this Disney comedy about a mild-mannered soul, played by Elliot Gould, who'd rather be in Philadelphia than in hell. So he has to find someone to replace him. In his search, all hell breaks loose. Rated PG, but it's still a Disney. Tribute: Jack Lemmon re ceived an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in his role as a dying man who's trying to get back in touch with his family, especially his son, played by Robby Ben son. Rated PG. Kirk and Spock, his first officer, are un ited to once again to discover new worlds and go where no man has gone before. Friday and Saturday at midnight. Rated PG. MSC Box Office 845-2916 Finian's Rainbow: Fred Astaire stars in this multi million dollar musical that flop ped. No particularly reason why this film bombed — like any other musical, it's got lots and lots of happy people (some short and cute) singing happy songs. Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. in 601 Rudder. Rated G. Blue Lagoon: In this summer's surprise box-office hit, Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins are two youngsters shipwreck ed on a island who eventually discover a natural, uninhibited love. Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. in Rudder Theatre. Rated R. Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask: Woody Allen's bizarre interpretation of the bestselling book of the same name. Gene Wilder and a sheep star in one segment; Allen and a runaway female breast in another; and in the movie's best story, Burt Reynolds and Tony Randall run the helm of a male body in action. Friday and Saturday at midnight in Rudder Theatre. Rated R. True Grit: John Wayne re ceived an Oscar for his role as Rooster Cogburn. Not one of Wayne's better westerns ... not at all helped by Glenn Camp bell's appearances in the movie. But it's still John Wayne riding high in the saddle. Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Rudder Theatre. Rated G. South Pacific: Rogers and Hammerstein's adaptation of their wonderful Broadway musical is even more magnifi cent on the big screen. The scen ery is breathtaking, the acting is good, and the music is classic. Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Rud der Theatre. Unrated. Plitt Cinema I&II 846-6714 The Final Conflict: The final chapter (Thank God) in the Omen trilogy. Somehow the de vil's disciple becomes an ambas sador to England — and the Bri tons thought Johnny Rotten was pretty disgusting. Rated R. Dackroads: Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones star in one those cute little movies about two opposites who somehow manage to be attracted to each other. In this film, our good- hearted prostitute travels along the backroads of America (in cluding Brownsville) with a box er with a glass jaw. Rated PG.
