THt BAT IALIUN MONDAY, MARCH 9, 1981 ^age a Local uffett brings tropics to A&M By RITCHIE PRIDDY Battalion Staff Jimmy Buffett took Texas A&M by storm Saturday night before 5,000 fans in G. Rollie White Coliseum. Bufifett, who is winding up his tour, performed 25 of his hits, many of them alone and some with Harry Daily, the only original Coral Reefer still in the band. The MSC Town Hall Committee sponsored the concert. On March 5, Daily and Buffett celebrated their sixth year perform ing together. Buffett began the evening alone with one of his earlier hits, “Stranded on a Sand Bar” followed by “Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes.” Review Photo by Dave Einsel rTexas'ilininiy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band led a pre-spring itcertd break beach party with several of his hits including le bettipStranded on a Sand Bar” and “Coconut Telegraph” in G. Rollie White Coliseum Saturday night. The concert was presented by the MSC Town Hall Committee. Three other Reefers joined Buffett for several songs before the rest of the band came on stage for his first number off of his latest album. “It’s My Job,” “Coconut Telegraph” and “Volcano” came next, followed by “Cheeseburger in Paradise.” Slowing the pace down a bit, Buffett and his band then performed his first hit, “Come Monday.” The band, performing alone, played for some two hours, much to the delight of the partisan crowd — and Buffett knew it. Following a 20-minute break, he returned to the stage with Daily on bass guitar to perform “Livingston’s Gone to Texas.” Next came the crowd’s favorite — “God’s Own Drunk.” That number brought a roar from the crowd. The remainder of the Reefers returned to the stage after “Song for the Children, Song for the World” to perform another favorite — “Let’s Get Drunk and Screw.” Another number off of his latest album, “Good Fight”, was followed by “Son of a Son of a Sailor. ” The two best performed songs of the evening followed, both receiv ing tremendous approval from the crowd: “A Pirate Looks at Forty” and “The Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful.” That number was perhaps, the strongest of the night. It was also intended to be the last of the evening. After a tremendous applause, though, the band returned to the stage to perform “Incommunicado” and “Fins". Buffett and his band finished the evening, following his second encore, on a high note with “Dixie Diner". Using all 10 members of his Coral Reefer Band to their fullest, Buffett put on one of the best, most professional shows Texas A&M University has seen in some time.
