pports THE BATTALION Page 13 THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1981 Ags hold Huskies to stay unbeaten By RICK STOLLE Battalion Staff The Texas A&M University men’s tennis team kept on its winning ways Wednesday as the Ags downed the University of Washington 9-0 in a dual match at the Omar Smith Tennis Center. Texas A&M now has an unblemished 6-0 record for the spring. But the Ags go into their toughest match of the young spring season today in San Antonio against Trinity University. Aggie coach David Kent said the team was playing well and, as it turned out, the Washington match was a good warm-up for the Trinity match. He said he had been worried about the team overlooking the Huskies toward Trinity and lossing some of their sharpness. “It turned out to be a great warm-up for us, ” he said. “The guys were sharp and had some exceptional matches.” Kent complimented senior Reid Freeman in particular. “Reid was just short of sensational, ” Kent said. “If he continues to play like this he’ll be an All-America candidate.” In singles: Freeman beat Scott Pearson 6-1, 6-1; Trey Schutz defe ated Dan Zeratsky 6-1, 6-2; Brian Joelson beat Randy Lim 6-3, 6-2; Tom Judson beat Geordie Foster 6-2, 6-2; Max King defeated Mark Neubayer 6-4, 6-2 and Ron Kowal defeated Brian Whiteside 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Ags remained undefeated in doubles play stretching their doubles record over two seasons to 30-0. Joelson-Freeman beat Pearson-Zeratsky 7-6, 4-6, 6-4; Kowal- Judson defeated Whiteside-Neubayer 6-2, 6-1 and Schutz-Leonard Smith beat John Gant-Lim 6-1, 7-5. The Ags will probably not be able to keep the string of doubles victories alive after today. Trinity is a perennial tennis power and has beaten the Ags for three years. , However, A&M is going into the match in a position Kent relish es... as the underdog. Kent said the pressure is on Trinity to win and not on the Ags. It changes the perspective of the game, he said. “We want to go in there relaxed and ready to play our best tennis,” Kent said. The Ags next home match will be Tuesday, Feb. 24 against Austin Peay University at 1:30 p.m. at the Omar Smith Tennis Center.
