By RICHARD OLIVER Sports Editor The Texas A&M University men’s gymnastics team starts its spring schedule this weekend with a meet in Hobbs, N.M. Team president Rick Zapata said Monday the meet will be a “warm up” due to the fact the team didn’t get much practice together over the Christmas Break. However, several members of the team did hone their skills by attend ing the Winter Sun Clinic in Port Worth. “It mostly was a clinic designed to improve skills and attitudes,” said Zapata. “This spring will be kind of touch and go for awhile,” he said. “We have to get things going first and get organized because the holiday sea son didn’t work out for us.” Approximately 10 members will be going to New Mexico. Among those going and their spe cialties are team captain Mark Hart well, ringman, floor and vault; Ray Moltz, all-around; David Semon, all- around; Jim Foght, rings and pom mel horse; Zapata, all-around; Ken ny Fontenot, floor vault and high bar; and Francisco Sun, pommel horse and parallel bars. Semon and Fontenot are new team members. “The team is about average at the start of the semester,” said Zapata. “We have to get over these initial jitters, you know (at the New Mexico meet). Once you get on the floor and going, it kind of gets you motivated. ” Following this weekend’s meet, the next event on the Aggies’ calen dar will be a meet against Texas Feb. 7 in Austin.
